10 Balls in a Bag, numbered 1,2,3,4....to 10

You draw 4 balls at random, unseen.

What is the probability that neither number 1 or number 2 (or any two specific numbers if you like) get drawn out.

First ball drawn not 1 of 2 ..... 8/10

A start...
Report Journeyman • December 19, 2009 3:08 PM GMT
Here's my Rachel Riley style breakdown.

The probability of 1st ball drawn not being one of the numbers is 80%

The probability of 2nd ball drawn not being one of the numbers is 77.77%

The probability of 3rd ball drawn not being one of the numbers is 75%

The probability of 4th ball drawn not being one of the numbers is 71.42%

That's based on drawing the balls one at a time, and the percentages are based on drawing
from the balls left in the bag NOT from 10 balls.

71.42% x 75% x 77.77% x 80%
= 0.33333%
i.e. probabilty of one in three.
