Excellent quiz rob :) great fun - I miss quizzing For info, I think banyan is wrong and bodhi right: From Wiki: The Bodhi Tree, also known as Bo (from the Sinhalese Bo), was a large and very old Sacred Fig tree (Ficus religiosa) located in Bodh Gaya (about 100 km (62 mi) from Patna in the Indian state of Bihar), under which Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher and founder of Buddhism later known as Gautama Buddha, achieved enlightenment, or Bodhi. |

Excellent Quiz, sorry I missed it, good work from Baggers, wd winners.

Just looked it up slarty. It does say Bodhi, my question card said Banyan. I don't know where the confusion comes from because a few people got Banyan right.
They are both types of fig tree it would seem. |

Was very nearly going to use "Slartibartfast" in the literature round. Went against in the last round. Don't know how well known the character is.

Cheers rob thanks for scoring baggers are you in this country ? No on a day off in Malta |

been asked before p4s - think it was a skinner then unless slarty got it himself!
|
|

Indeed, Easter. Your recreational habits have not dulled your memory. I remember a quiz in which this was asked. I answered banyan ony to be told that that was incorect and bodhi was correct. I didn't question that answer until now.
This may be an enlightening ( ;) ) extract fm the wiki page on the banyan tree: # Buddha is believed to have achieved enlightenment in Bodhgaya in India while meditating under a banyan tree of the species Sacred Fig. The tree is known as Bodhi Tree It seems that fig trees are often called banyans and the specific type of fig tree under which Buddha is thought to have become enlightened are often known as bodhi trees. So both are sort of right. |

that's annoying, is one of the few literary questions i would ever get.
|
|
By:
void the quiz imo

This page typifies the confusion:
