Anyone interested? There isn't another quiz planned is there? 1 bonus point if you sign in beforehand, so I can get a scoreboard going.

4-3-2-1 Scoring, 5 for unique correct. Some minor changes to scoring on occasions, but not often.

Reckon I can whizz through the questions, but will have 30 minute break in the middle, and should still be done by about 10.30pm.

I've got all day watching cricket compiling questions. They will be grouped in sets of 5 eg. 5 art, 5 literature, 5 sport etc. I will tell you the exact order when I have compiled the questions later. They will be very simple (boring if you like, not much imagination has gone into them) in format - eg. In which novel did the following character appear? The next 5 questions will simply be the names of characters and you have to name the novel.

I have also attempted to give them an approximate "grading". So the first in each set of 5 is relatively easy (though I am hoping not to just 'give them away') and there may bean element of fff. They will then get progressively harder, and the last of the set of 5 will be v.tough imo. Scoring is the same regardless.

Excellent quiz rob :)

great fun - I miss quizzing

For info, I think banyan is wrong and bodhi right:

From Wiki:
The Bodhi Tree, also known as Bo (from the Sinhalese Bo), was a large and very old Sacred Fig tree (Ficus religiosa) located in Bodh Gaya (about 100 km (62 mi) from Patna in the Indian state of Bihar), under which Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher and founder of Buddhism later known as Gautama Buddha, achieved enlightenment, or Bodhi.

Report positively4thsteet • December 18, 2009 10:08 PM GMT
Just looked it up slarty. It does say Bodhi, my question card said Banyan. I don't know where the confusion comes from because a few people got Banyan right.

They are both types of fig tree it would seem.

Report slartybartfast • December 18, 2009 10:16 PM GMT
Indeed, Easter. Your recreational habits have not dulled your memory. I remember a quiz in which this was asked. I answered banyan ony to be told that that was incorect and bodhi was correct. I didn't question that answer until now.

This may be an enlightening ( ;) ) extract fm the wiki page on the banyan tree:

# Buddha is believed to have achieved enlightenment in Bodhgaya in India while meditating under a banyan tree of the species Sacred Fig. The tree is known as Bodhi Tree

It seems that fig trees are often called banyans and the specific type of fig tree under which Buddha is thought to have become enlightened are often known as bodhi trees. So both are sort of right.
