I got my son something similar to this last year:

great fun while they lasted but they did break very easily and flight time for all these copters are about 10 mins.

Maplins have a few from £20 upwards, I'm going to buy my son the Chinook this year @ £25

The Gadget Show reviewed remote control flying toys (99% helicopters) a few weeks back.

You can see the clip at http://fwd.five.tv/gadget-show/videos/top-5/top-5-flying-toys

Remember these are indoor toys to be kept away from drafts and pets.

I got one last christmas, asked for one from my sister meaning one of the £20 ones from Argos you buzz around your living room and ended up geting a 7 Channel Walkera Dragonfly RC Copter.
A year on and I still can't fly the damn thing, not at all easy IMO, or at least I can't pick it up.

If you have a park or something nearby I recommend one of these planes if you can find them over there:

Fly a lot further than the helicopters - make sure you get the mini one, it's a lot easier to fly.

Complete waste of time, takes a long time to charge for a few minutes of flying. You cannot really control them as they just go up and down with no true control.

That's why I prefer the plane, they actually go where you want to, including the odd tree or neighbours backyard.
