insomnia is an inability to sleep......i have a lack of desire to sleep!.......while i sleep the world carries on regardless...that is a situation i do not like!!....i cannot stop the world....so i choose not to sleep!!

Report STUDYFORM • July 23, 2009 11:32 PM BST
I stopped taking some very mild (apparently) pills for a leg nerve problem a few months back, and didn't sleep for about 70 hours - I didn't like that at all. You need sleep, so try to get some.
Report tobermory • July 23, 2009 11:32 PM BST
Last 4 nights i think never more than 3.5 hrs yes , twice 2 hrs , so maybe 8 or 9 at most

annoying , don't feel like going to sleep now , probably could have managed it about 8pm , and caught up , but had to go out and not back til nearly 11.

Had to get up for work every day about 7 at latest ,not getting to sleep before 4 :0

Don't feel great certainly , think it is going to suddenly hit me in the next day or so!

Report tobermory • July 23, 2009 11:38 PM BST
Yeah Casemoney, i actually find it hard to believe that people can do that

Always takes me at least 45 minutes even when really tired ,often several hours.
Report runandskip • July 23, 2009 11:40 PM BST
tobes watch a bit of baseball on sky 417 you will be asleep in no time
Report armchair jockey wilson!! • July 23, 2009 11:43 PM BST
its seriously no joke when the ability to sleep deserts you!....ive had problems for years now....funny thing is i can sleep like a log during the day!...but at night..the minute my head hits the pillow..my brain thinks its party time!!
Report tobermory • July 23, 2009 11:43 PM BST

yeah i should log off now anyway
Report STUDYFORM • July 23, 2009 11:43 PM BST
Tobe, it becomes a state of mind after a while, doesn't it?
I've done what you're doing on and off over the years, often I just can't be bothered to go to bed, or to turn the TV off, or more recently the computer, when there's no reason for any of it.
I've watched some right old toffe on the telly at 2 or 3am too :(

I take a puzzle/sudoku/crossword book to bed when I get like this, and it sort of empties my brain and sleep gets easier.

On a very rare occassion - 3 times ever - I'll ask the doc for some sleeping pills, just enough for a few days though, to get me back in the habit, and get my body used to a full night's kip. then stop them. Just 2 or 3 days seems to kick-start it.

I feel for you. Hopefully you'll get back in the swing of it soon, otherwise it can start having physical effects (spots, dark eyes, concentration probs).
Report STUDYFORM • July 23, 2009 11:44 PM BST
Oh the only trouble with the sleeping pills though is, I don't go straight to sleep, but I have trouble waking up, so if you take 'em make it a weekend.
Report tobermory • July 23, 2009 11:48 PM BST
very true Study

Work don'thelp though at the moment, 2 weeks ago was getting home afterwards not much before midnight, now this week every day have to leave befoire 8 am ffs

can't afford to just leave jobs at the moment wit hhardly any others abouit tho
Report tobermory • July 23, 2009 11:49 PM BST
the worst thing ,the anxiety about needing to get some sleep becomes the main thing preventing it.

definitely going now ,thanks for the advice
Report STUDYFORM • July 23, 2009 11:51 PM BST
That's hard. You can't go straight to bed after work - I've worked all manner of strange hours, but you can no more go to bed after say a night-shift than after a 9-5 day.

As you say with things how they are.... I hope the OT's worth it ;)
Having said that though, you don't need to work yourself into ill-health, that won't help anyone.

Yeah that is very true in my experience.

Mitchell, yes drinking does help you sleep, but wanted to cut down on that, and not had any since April.

I don't sleep well due to back pain, but find the best recipe for a decent sleep is a couple of bottles of red wine and a** before bed time! I could really do with a decent kip :(

Turn the telly on to 'Parliament Live' at 2-00 a.m.

If Diane Abbott is on one of her monologues, you'll be asleep in under 10 minutes.
