ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE European CHAMPIONS Competition .
This Thread will be the Champions League contact point ..###
(the same as each League had one).

Following on from last seasons chit chat leagues, the inaugural Champions League competition qualifiers are now known ,
and it is is planned to hold the Comp over the next few weeks to finish just before Christmas.

Usually Qualifiers will be :-
The top 5 from the Premiership, Championship and Cola leagues qualifying for the group stage automatically.
The 3x 6th place teams playing one another in a run off qualifier in order to secure the last (16th) spot into the group stage.
However, this year due to the unfortunate loss of Slartybartfast (6th in Champ) and Wizards Sleeve (3rd in Cola) from the Leagues,
we are able to go straight to the group stage, as we have 16 qualifers left .

The 16 quizzers therefore Qualifying to take part from the 3x leagues for the season just finished are :-
Premiership Qualifiers
POPPYDOG (seeded)
MUNTZ STREET(seeded)
PADDY MAYNE
JIMMY69
STUDYFORM
TOBERMORY
Championship Qualifiers
NIRVANA(seeded)
DARK DESTROYER
SLB
JOCKAY
MADMADMOON
Cola Qualifiers
MR MIGGINS(seeded)
NATALIA GEMELOVER
ASTONTOM
CEDARMASTER
RIBBER
###...The 16 Qualifiers are asked to confirm their acceptance of their invitation , by Midnight Saturday 21st, otherwise the Reserve will be asked to step in .###
Reserves (7th placed quizzers)
1st. GrahamvGreen
2nd. Tom Petty Is God (*tbc )
3rd. Transmission Vamp
Reserves will receive an invitation to join in place of the original invitees IF we don't get confirmation by midnight Saturday that they will be taking part.

The Live draw will take place NEXT SUNDAY 22nd November and the group matches can commence anytime from 6pm that evening.
There will be 4x Groups of 4.... drawn completely randomly in a Live Draw,including
The 4x seeded Players (3x League winners + Prem Runner Up ) will be drawn Live into 4x different groups , as per the real thing .
Each qualifer plays other qualifiers in their group (home and away) and so you will each play at least 6 matches.

Once the groups are completed the top 2 in each group proceeds to the knockout stage where again there will be home and away legs (with away goals counting double in the event of an aggregate tie).
Group winners will meet a group runner up and vice versa in the quarter finals. We are planning a one off quarter finals night when we get to this stage. The following week would see the semi finals and final on the same night.
Lozzy and Myself have been tasked with the Admin on this Comp , and will be doing the Live draw and refereeing.
The game format will be 6 questions same as in the leagues, including 2x multis, but now (A to F) ....
For home subjects, there will be a choice of 16 generic headings .
Quizzers will pick TWO of the 16 subjects for use in the tournament. (no restriction on number of times each is used).
They will then have the opportunity to CHOOSE which of their two they use for each of their matches (ie tactics against their opponent).
Subject to be confirmed at match arranging time .

Looks as loaded in favour of the UK & as easy to qualify for as the real Champs League! Where is the 'European' element to it? Champions (even self proclaimed ones ;-) ) of small nations frozen out in a manner UEFA would be proud of!

Evening quizzers - great that several have agreed their home subjects already.
Seasider in answer to your point, the leagues are an absolutely mammoth project requiring 5500 questions. There is a hell of a lot of planning and work to be done on the format, not to mention the question setting. This Champions League competition will require not even 400 questions, and we had planned this all along for the top 6 in each league. There is minimal planning and work needs to go into this and we feel it will keep the interest generated between the play offs and the start of the new season. This idea will give top quizzers in their leagues a chance to play with the very best from other leagues last season, and will be a unique cup competition amongst the best the forum leagues have to offer for everybody to look forward to at the end of every season. The Champions League will be incredibly tough to win and a feather in the cap to the forumite who is eventually successful. |
