According to theweatheroutlook.com......especially for the east anglia region...-4 on xmas eve with wind chill of -14...They'll need to get the covers on at kempton.. NOW.
I have very low confidence in any forecast this far out. Unless we get a lengthy period of high pressure "blocking" patterns just change too quickly to be able to make a prediction with any confidence.
But bring on the White Christmas anyway.

The high pressure moving north towards the UK seems to have come all the way from Africa. Surely that sort of air is going to be stable enough to regress all the way to Iceland and Greenland and give us proper 60s/70s-style northern blocking for a good while to come?
I'm-uh der-reamin' of a whi-i-te Chris-muss imo.

Just looked at the GFS 06z model.... very interesting stuff, with an easterly blast then being followed by northerly winds. Haven't seen a set up like that in winter too often. Models largely in agreement as well except the UKMO one. GFS 06z ensembles look good as well, some very cold 850 HPa temps possible for London.

I'm no meteorologist either, Dark Dagger, just a guesser with a 30-year-old O level physics certificate. But what the hell, we could hardly be much worse than the professionals in this field.
I was just watching the charts before 10 o'clock on the BBC news channel last night. The presenter mentioned the high pressure forecast to arrive without mentioning the source shown on the chart. That source seemed significant to me. We don't see this sort of air ridging north very often in December.
Usually the Atlantic just smashes away high pressure after a few days, as the Met office are probably forecasting, but this looks different to me. I reckon these Atlantic lows we've been enjoying are going to get deflected south by this block, as they used to, resulting in easterly blizzards.
But then, that's what we learnt in 30 O level physics 30 years ago. I suppose global warming makes white Christmases impossible in O level physics now.
