havent been there for like 13 years, there used to be a caravan park in the village, local pub etc, but its probably all changed.. never went to the town centre much, only to get takeaway and do the weekly shopping with him(his brother in law owned a butchers) i wouldnt have considered it a great destination for a break tbh, but then some must if theres a caravan park there

I've done a couple of race nights in a school there some years back - seems OK
By:
not to far from me
nice place |
By:
certainly beats sheerness in kent

By:
Shepherd Neame
By:
Was thinking of moving there once. Decided against it as it was way too quiet.
By:
Favershams not too far from my dad, we go there sometimes.there's a nice relaxing place on the way to canterbury( from faversham) called Wickembreaux, thats a nice quiet relaxing place.
By:
Wickhambreaux is the other side of Canterbury, lovely pub called The Rose. Faversham is an odd place, very quiet and old fashioned but full of pikeys. Might struggle to fill a weekend but some of the villages around are lovely.
By:
Correct Blackburn. Fordwich is the very small quiet village on the way to Canterbury, Herne Bay (where my dad lives )is a lot better now than it use to be, better in the summer than now TBH.
By:
Actually NTF Fordwich is on the way to Margate from C'Bury, sorry to be pedantic! The Fordwich Arms is very nice too.
Not sure about Herne Bay, its never really taken off in the way Whitstable has recently. |
By:
The Clamparts (Jed + Elly May , etc ) thought Faversham was a greeting and used to say
"Faversham Mr Drysdale " :D |
By:
this was in the bit were they all visited England btw ...
By:
Blackburn, all depends on whether you go straight up the hill or turn right after you go through the level crossing at sturry ..LOL..
By:
Agree that The Fordwich arms is a nice pub ,sat outside there having a meal many times by the river, on the way back from Folkestone races in the summer...
By:
Used to live in Westbere nr. Canterbury for a while so know Fordwich Arms well.
---- blackburn 07 Dec 15:05 Faversham is an odd place, very quiet and old fashioned but full of pikeys Yep - my findings precisely. |
By:
Herne Bay absolute chav heaven. Stay away imo
By:
Faversham is old and parts are good- houses are interesting - some built on the continental/ flemish style - 300+ years old - in the quay every chance of seeing the odd thames barge- pre-book a brewery tour for an hour if thats your thing- Shepherd Neame- you'll learn a bit of the town's history - close by - Whitstable is worth a visit - park outside town and stroll in - hit the beach and walk past Peter Cushings house- the neptune pub on the beach is unfussy - cr ap for beer but good vibes and music (imo) - a few pubs and fish restaurants 100 yards further down the beach- keep going for 200 yds more and your in the working harbour- -on high street coffee shops/ cafes - some quirky places for lunch - clothes boutiques -delicattessens- best beer is at The Ship Centurian on the High street- run by a mad german - Armin - who swears like a trooper - try one of his famous chillied pickle eggs- called Armins A rse Rippers -heading back to Faversham theres a gastro pub- the sportsman at Seasalter - expensive - fancy and not big servings but class food
By:
btw speaking of Wickhambreaux - is where James Bond comes from in the original books.
By:
Are you sure about that? Fleming had a place at St Margarets Bay. A lot of the books refer to East Kent, thats for sure.
By:
That's why he was called 007, that was the local bus route.
By:
my mates got a cottage at st margarets bay, lots of muggings and murders and robberies, thousands of asylum seekers living in shop doorways...
By:
You must have a different St Margarets Bay, its a lovely village
By:
Is that how you go about seeking asylum? Seems odd.
By:
Only joking Blackburn, my mate reads this forum and doesn't know my username, he rang me just now and told me what someone wrote about st margarets ., TBH i forgot all about it..lol...It is a lovely place..
By:
NTF I guess he knows your username now! Tell him you'll buy him a beer at the Coastguard to cheer him up.
By:
phew I live in St Margarets. Wondered what was going on there for a moment! It's lovely - and it's a four pub village. :)
By:
Is it near Dover?
By:
yes treble - halfway between Dover and Deal.
By:
Any sea fishing there?
By:
it's not bad but Deal beach and pier - and the Admiralty pier and the breakwater in Dover are better. Mainly flatties off the beach but the odd good bass also.
By:
Blackburn , i prefer The smugglers, low ceiling but nice and cosy, as for Deal , saw a blue plaque on the wall outside a house stating that Charles Hawtrey lived here.
By:
NTF Hawtry lived in Middle Street I know exactly where the house is. The Smugglers is ok, the food at the White Cliffs Hotel, formerly the Cliffe Tavern is great. The Coastguard a bit touristy for me
Lovely unspoilt part of the world |
By:
Its a very short price sultan and I know each other btw
By:
I remember seeing Charles Hawtrey in a pub at Reculver (near Herne bay) with his wife (i think)the actress Queenie Watts..
By:
DAmbuster, If your familiar with Reculver ..then it suits your username...
