I broke my motherboard :(

I have a Q6600 CPU. What motherboard should I be looking out for?

How old is the PC?

If its pretty old, you may be able to get a decent low spec Motherboard, Chip and Fan for a few £££ that will be higher than your current processor. You can then butcher your old PC for hard drives, RAM, case etc.

I built my last PC using this method for less than £50 and I'm no PC expert. So long as you have internet access, you can find answers on what to do/**problems.

Q6600 is a quad core pentium. Around 2 years old max. Can be overclocked to 3.2GHZ+ with ease. To get anything much better you are looking at brand new top spec *****

I'm happy with the processor. Well fast enough. The broken mobo is a EVGA 680i SLI. They are discontinued now, so wondering what I could replace it with.

Open the case and see what motherboard is in it?

From £33 here. All on this page should be OK. Make sure your RAM is compatible.

EGG, I think ill follow your lead and grab one of the P5Q-E's. £90 seems quite reasonable and I can still use my ram and graphics card with it.

Good board. Easy to overclock if you want to.

Don't forget that Windows may need reactivating because of the hardware change.

Thats just done over the internet isn't it?

As far as I know yes.

Only a problem if your are running pirate windows.

Well thats me safe then. Never run a dodgy OS, not worth it for the money they cost.

Thanks for your help :)
