You can only watch one film for the rest of your days.

Which one would you chose?

A no doubt popular choice - I'm going to go with the Godfather.

A beautiful masterpiece. Perfection from start to finish.

I refuse to accept in the history of planet earth a film will come close to challenging the Godfather (except for Godfather part 2).

Godfather - from a good book to start with, skillfully adapted, brilliant script. Every single part was played flawlessly and every single scene worked. Add brilliant direction..a story told at a leisurely pace but with the tension racking up all the time It has to be the best film of all time only Godfather 2 comes close
Report Des Pond • December 7, 2009 11:00 PM GMT
Withnail & I: No other film like it. More memorable one-liners than any other film, hilarious script, wonderful acting, beautifully realised, visually. Unique mix of humour and pathos and two of Hendrix's best tracks and King Curtis's last performance on the soundtrack. What more could you want?

It's got great comedy, silliness, musical legends, great music.
OK so I haven't got a way with words, but thats the movie i would choose.

The best film ever made, and a film you could watch again and again on a desert island, are two very different things IMO.

I couldn't watch Schindler's List over and over, although it's undoubtedly one of the greatest films ever made.

A film I'd have to watch over and over would need to be lighthearted and easy going, without much important happenning. Like Dazed and Confused or Ocean's Eleven!
Report mittheimp • December 8, 2009 8:12 AM GMT
a film to watch over again on a deset island who obviosly have to include afair bit of artistic porn - but i dont think thats what really the questioner is asking -

South Park: Bigger, Longer and uncut - work of genius and criminally underated.

Jaws the original movie is a masterpiece - slighly let down now by the shark effects.

The hustler when american cinema was good!

Chinatown Also when American cinema was good!

choose one of them - but wouldnt want to watch any film that many times!
Report Child of the Rafalution • December 8, 2009 8:21 AM GMT
agree with last post.

Film id watch repeatedly probably 'A Night at the Roxbury' because its good natured light hearted enjoyment from start to finish. An absolutely brilliant film IMO

The Man with the Golden Gun is also a film ive watched many many times over although not a fave of mine
Report wit-ham • December 8, 2009 8:21 AM GMT
loads of films butl highlander for me never got fed up watching that

but would also throw in godfather and plenty others on this thread

and to top it all would throw in groundhog day so i could watch them all again
Report STUDYFORM • December 8, 2009 8:23 AM GMT
The Sting - It was so perfectly set in the 30's it wouldn't matter when it was seen - the cast were so believable, the story well formed, the acting brilliant.

Also you can't see The Life Of Brian too often imo.

Of the the ususal contenders - 'Godfather I and II'', 'Pulp Fiction' (genius) 'Big Lebowski' nad 'Groundhog Day' (both hilarious) for me.

But right up there is the French Film - 'A Very Long Engagement' was in mainstream cimemas a 3 or 4 years back - love, war, detective story all rolled into one. Engrossing.

The Usual Suspects for me.

Stellar cast, cracking plot and i could watch it over and over.

Notbale mentions for

Pulp Fiction

I agree that the best films aren't necessarily the ones to watch on an endless loop, I'd plump for a Marx brothers film, maybe A Night At The Opera ;)
Report NSL • December 8, 2009 10:01 AM GMT
Usual Suspects is one of my favourites but I couldn't watch it over and over. I wish I could watch it for the first time all over again though, brilliant. :-)

Probably Godfather Part 2 for me aswell. Or Pootie Tang.
Report get in there gamsty! • December 8, 2009 10:16 AM GMT
So many but the fairest way would be to pick what i'v watched most and that would probably be..........
Aliens
example why? heres a few classic lines....

Gorman: Apone! Look... we can't have any firing in there. I, uh... I want you to collect magazines from everybody.
Hudson: Is he **in' crazy?
Frost: What the hell are we supposed to use man? Harsh language?

Hudson: Man, this floor is freezing.
Apone: What do you want me to do, fetch your slippers for you?
Hudson: Gee, would you sir? I'd like that.
[Apone pulls down the skin under his left eye with middle finger]
Apone: Look into my eye.

[Ripley slaps away the tray of food Bishop offers her]
Frost: I guess she don't like the cornbread, either.

Van Leuwin: Thank you, that will be all.
Ripley: God damn it, that's not all! Because if one of those things gets down here then that will be all! Then all this - this ** that you think is so important, you can just kiss all that goodbye!

Drake: Hey, Hicks. Man, you look just like I feel.

Ripley: You know, Burke, I don't know which species is worse. You don't see them **ing each other over for a goddamn percentage.
