Roobish, you're giving these "great" bands "classics" more credit than they deserve.

You live in a taste free zone with laminate flooring.

Anything Dave Grohl and Josh Homme have ever been involved in should also be added to the list.

Some brilliant bands on this thread imo! However...

Beatles = massively over-rated bunch of scousers who just happened to be around when people could start affording tellies (although tbf Lennon was a great songwriter)
Stones = see above, except**neys
AC/DC = simply an example of a heavy metal band that would actually sing/play their instruments properly more than owt else
Queen = no more than reasonable, but any bunch of session musician level fools would have looked good behind Mercury (let's face it, nothing they did ever came close to Bohemian Rhapsody)

(U2, while not favourites of mine, have at least evolved their sound/technique/song writing style & stood the test of time. REM, albeit to a much lesser & less successful degree, have done the same)

Those who dont recognise the incredible talent of Alex Turner are either stubborn or tone deaf, if you dont like the band fair enough but they have created a sound that is completely original which takes some doing nowadays, I would include him in a long line of great british songwriters along with Ray Davies, Morrissey, and Weller....

They were just becoming massive, esp in the UK, before Kurt Cobain died. I had tickets to go & see Nirvana at Manchester G-Mex - a gig at what was then Manchester's largest concert venue that had sold out in the days before everyone had internet access.

As for goths/emos I'm happy to be corrected but I'd imagine there's a fair few of them who like Nirvana (enough of them wear the t-shirts).

Report Alex69 • December 7, 2009 5:52 PM GMT
Nor me! My point was that they don't get the credit they perhaps deserve because they're not seen as 'credible' by non-fans whose only exposure to Nirvana is seeing Kurt face or the Nirvana logo on a t-shirt worn by a youth.
