Two spring to mind, Prefab Sprout and Carter USM. The latter used to put on a rocking good show live.

Marillion a definite for a while after Fish left...though there were also some other 80s prog bands who never got the attention they deserved. Particularly IQ and Pallas imo.

Poogirl, your mention of scritti politti has made me now search for them on Spotify now. I can't really remember them much, but I do recall a friend being into them.

Poogirl, I wouldn't say I hate them, just not my scene really.
Been trying to think of people who I like who don't get the credit they deserve. For me its The Faces. Nobody really looks back to them, but I think they were something special. The BBC live sets that they did, top drawer. On youtube. |

another band i used to love were..TALK TALK

alex the pixies are great and i think they have indeed got all the cred they deserve, many bands have been influenced inc. nirvana
id say off top of my head: the skids john otway and wild willy barrett |

Tony - you may have a point there, it's just whenever I mention them on here I usually get a 'who?' or 'not as good as the stones, the beatles, the who, flippin' bob dylan' etc! Some other bands that I think are exceptional & never get/got the credit they deserve are Stump, The Toy Dolls (amazing lyricists & players), Pop Will Eat Itself & Cabaret Voltaire. It's a good thread this, but I think ELO and Squeeze have had more than their fair share of plaudits. I do have records/CDs of both in my collection as it goes!

maybe its all sujective etc but when i click on pixies stuff on youtube ALL their songs are exceptional, same thing goes for stranglers and arcade fire

The Debtors .. |

Tony - sounds like we've got similar tastes. Did u see the 'My Top 100' thread I put up a few weeks back? The Stranglers & Arcade Fire both featured on there :)

The National - should be massive, but are barely known. Although they sold out the festival hall in 3 mins so a hard core fan base does exist, albeit a small venue.

By:
CJ - I bought a couple of their albums on your recommendation. Good stuff, although I stick with my original assertion that they remind me of the Tindersticks!
|
|
By:
In that case Alex, i'll follow your recommendation and dig out the T sticks !
