Marillion really polarise opinion amongst fans who either prefer the Fish or Hogarth era. I'm in the former camp but also like some of their later stuff.

Thin Lizzy. In the shadow of other 70's/80's bands when they don't deserve to be. Had a massive impact on Iron Maiden for example, who themselves are very influential.
Very few can boast the versatility and back catalogue of them but they are always forgot about. |

Agree with Squeeze redbag. Went to see them at the Liverpool pops about 3 months ago, superb. Pretenders on the same bill, they're brilliant live, almost like listening to the recorded songs.
Off to see UB40 tonight @ the Echo arena. Eddy Grant supporting, not really looking forward to Eddy but who knows, might be pleasantly surprised. |

Phil - agree in part. I was speaking recently to a friend who is a pub/club musician and he said in Ireland Lynott is rightly still very fondly remembered and they still have the get-together with John Sykes and other former band memebers each year to remember him.

The Go Go's would have been huge if Belinda hadn't gone solo.

Porcupine Tree.
When you have released the amount of albums they have that have won all sorts of awards from the music industry and sell out wherever they go and still 99% of the music listening population hasnt even HEARD of them let alone heard anything BY them, i find that amazing. |
|
By:
Yep true HRH, in Ireland they are legendary which is understandable. Maybe because I'm from N.Ireland I still feel an emotional attachment as they do have some roots from here and as a result I overrate them, it's possibly that or maybe they are a band who people like rather than love.

I remember when I first went to University, I wanted a girl who loved Nine below Zero. She never shut up about them. I claimed to like "Three Times Enough", and still didn't get anything from her. She has now married an amateur jockey. True story.

But Squeeze for me, with Paul Carrack. Tempted is a great song

If we're including solo artists too, Billy Joel is acres ahead of Elton John, and other contemporaries who get more coverage than he does.
|
|
By:
Elton John is a typical 'I'm so good/big now, I no longer have to try' and consequently is sh!te now.
