on various threads on this forum ever actually been to Liverpool*?
* Arriving on a coach and walking 600yds to one of the football stadia, then walking back to the coach and getting all brave about 10yds from that coach, doesn't count.
One thing I would say about my home town which I've always thought stood out is that by and large people in Liverpool ask questions about why things should be, they challenge injustice and hold onto it like a dog with a bone. But unfortunately in some parts of the city this becomes 'the chip' and people stop thinking. I've heard there is such a thing as a 'Liverpool Jury' in legal fields, this usually refers to a tough, questioning one that will pick up on the slightest error, sounds about right to me.

I'm comparing the same car, shab, and I shopped around.
I'm a bloody friendly bloke btw, and get on with most people, I do talk to people and have made a few friends. But not as many as elsewhere. In terms overdoing the self- pity, Ken Bigley is just one example, there is Madelaine McCann (there are STILL yellow and green ribbons on the railings round here) and James Bulger, to name 2 very unfortunate cases, the shooting of the 11 year old, The 4 year-old killed by yet another dog, Hillsborough (no mention of Heysel though), and others. Now, either this is a bloody unlucky place, or there are reasons why there seems to be more of this than elsewhere, or is that there is no difference to anywhere else and the locals wallow in it. They certainly all group together after something has happened. They boycott the Sun, they all have "strong roots", and they ALL comment (without prompting) on anyone who isn't from here.
btw, Romford and Ilford have Essex postcodes but are in fact in London.

I was in the Central Library last week where they have an Everton Ehibition in the large circular Picton Library. They had one of the old turnstyles on show with a newspaper story from the 1890's about how the turnstyle staff would turn back the clocking/counting mechanism by 200 before the start of a game and the difference would be discretely pocketed by the turnstyle staff. Had to laugh. They were just as sharp in those days...!!!

I think much of Liverpol's problems stem from the 1850's with the influx of a quarter of Ireland's population who were trying to escape the famine which led to poor and overcrowded conditions which prevailed well into the next century, a century Liverpool entered with a new found wealth built around the triangular slave trade between Africa and the Americas.
That's a strange paragraph. The population of Ireland, before the Great Hunger, was about 8 million. About 600,000 Irish landed in Liverpool during famine times, about half settled, the other half moved on. The triangular slave trade was abolished in 1807, 40 years before the famine, although trade with America continued.

In terms overdoing the self- pity, Ken Bigley is just one example, Read what I said above. Most scousers I know thought Bigley took a gamble and lost. The press only seemed to interview those people who fitted in with the report that they had already decided they were going to file, whatever the actual situation was. The fact that most people had a different view didn't matter. The locals wallow in grief - we MUST report that - otherwise the southerners will not compute.
there is Madelaine McCann (there are STILL yellow and green ribbons on the railings round here) The child is still missing. Do you think that everybody should just forget her and move on? Anyway, she is not from Liverpool!!
and James Bulger Like?
the shooting of the 11 year old So it is wrong to be absolutely outraged that an innocent 11 year old boy is shot in broad daylight outside his home? Should we just forget about that too? Do we just let the scallies know that killing a kid is OK, we will forget about it by next week?
The 4 year-old killed by yet another dog That happened last week ffs!
Hillsborough (no mention of Heysel though) I think you are wrong about Heysel. It is mentioned where relevant.

Heysel was not singularly responsible for fans being fenced in. Fencing was introduced as a response to hundreds of incidents of crowd trouble at domestic games.
On the other hand, with respect to Hillsborough, the impression I get from the media is that Liverpudlians seem to see the police as being something close to murderers, when at worst they were guilty of poor planning and on the day decision making that in retrospect was disasterous, but at the time seemed logical given the information available to them.

Hmmm. See above for media portrayals of Liverpool. The reason nobody buys the Sun in Liverpool is the lies the printed following Hillsborough. And all of the readers believed what they had read, because it was scousers, and they are all theiving**ts. Right? Why did the people think that? Why did they believe that so readily? Because it fits in with the stereotype maybe?
I don't wan't this thread to turn into one about Hillsborough, but the police did a lot wrong that day (as did others), but they covered their backs and blamed the crowd (see media reports, as detailed above). Classic deflection tactics. The police have 'misplaced' all of the cctv from that day. The biggest loss of life in the UK for decades and they lose vital evidence. I'll let you work out why that might be.

From wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sun_(newspaper)#Hillsborough Although the disaster occurred before TV cameras and a mass of sports reporters, no evidence was ever produced to substantiate The Sun's allegations.
And they have of course since apologised for their "awful error".
One of the accusations was that "some fans urinated on the brave cops". Those coppers again. And they are brave now. I wonder who planted that story. And why.

But the thing to think about is this. The London Tube bombings are commemorated every year. People grieve, etc. Do the newspapers accuse Londoners of wallowing in their grief?
Any large loss of life is similarly commemorated. Yet only one place is accused of wallowing in grief (whatever that means, btw!).

All this excessive wallowing in grief isn't just a Scouse thing. We see enough of it here in Scotland, too. When local footballer, Davie Cooper died suddenly of a burst brain artery, the media coverage and working class grief wallowing went completely over the top. Nearest thing I've seen to a state funeral up here, with all sorts of folk who'd never even met him stepping out to touch the hearse as it passed, looking suitably grief stricken. It's not about grief, actually. It's about being demonstrative about what a deeply caring, right minded human being you are. Basically, it's more of a personal PR thing than anything else, with some folk seeing it as a competition to outdo the next guy. That, and rubbernecking.
The Steve Irwin thing in Australia was another that springs to mind.

wallboy, I don't know the facts of the chicken case, but if you believe that, you are truly fodder for the media.
The police - they cordoned off the street, and 12 (TWELVE) people had fresh flowers at the scene. Do you not find that a bit odd - well you do, that's why you mention it.
How long were the police there? Many hours obviously.
Nobody questions why so many police officers were there (theremust have been loads) for most of the day if it was obviously a chicken. How STUPID are the police/
But nobody asked that question because the police put out a deflection story. Where have we seen that before?

The point of the thread was that peolple who have a go at scousers very rarely have actually been there, and make up their minds based on prejudiced media reports that are very often one-sided and sometimes just plain lies.

I've never been to Liverpool, but have met many Scousers working at various Butlin's camps and Sullom Voe oil terminal. I formed an opinion that many of them were lazy and had a bolshie attitude to work and that thet were more likely to thieve than average. Only person to be sacked and prosecuted for thieving on the ship I worked on in Shetland was Scouse. Another was sacked and prosecuted after the management called in the police because they suspected he was using (maybe dealing) drugs. The management wanted rid of him because he was an agitator. You don't actually have to live in Liverpool to get to know Scousers.

I have been to Liverpool twice. Stayed overnight at a friends house on the edge of a council estate. Arrived at 6pm friday night, at 11.30pm at the end of the street 2 police cars and an ambulance arrived, no idea what happened and the lad i stayed with never found out either. But the next day the street had been taped off and become a no go area.
Second time was to watch Everton Vs Newcastle. Had no idea where to park within reasonable distance to get to the stadium, pulled up in a small area about a mile away from stanley park (think thats what it was called) and when i got out a young lad of about 12 said, "wouldnt leave your car there mister, it wont be there when you come back". I said " I got a rottweiler in the back so dont try anything or he`ll have you", little kid said "Can he put out fires as well!"
Says it all IMVHO

And that is because you don't know many. There are many problems with Liverpool, and it's inhabitants. Scousers will be the first to tell you what they are.
But scousers (and me!) will not have somebody telling them something awful about their home city that that person has read in the Sun and is untrue or wildly prejudiced. Simple really.

I'm not meaning to have a pop, shab. My "typical scouser" remark was aimed at your defensiveness.
A few points however.
1. I do live in Liverpool 2. The McCann's are not from Liverpool, but the Garandma is, and there are posters and ribbons all over ther place round here, still. 3. There is a case for arguing that 100's of drunken Liverpool fans pushed in to an already packed stand at Hillsborough, and that this caused the problems, yet this is never considered as a factor. As for it being the "biggest loss of life in decades". It definitely wasn't. Ibrox had a similar tragedy in 1971, but I'm sure Glaswegians didn't still have the emotional outpourings you get here 20 years later. 4. I have never heard anyone mention Heysel. 5. The assertion that people in Liverpool would admit to being on benefits whereas others would be embarrassed signifies that you think scousers are different to others, in contradiction to your general argument. 6. I haven't even started mentioning all the over 'made up' orange women in their short skirts/legging 1/2 of whom are pushing a pram. imo you pick a scouse girl out of a lineup. 7. Considering the size and population of the place, there seems to be a disproportionate regularity and rate of serious crime, of the types I mentioned earlier. 8. Given that it was much more recent and has more far-reaching potential effect (terrorism, links to Madrid, Bali, New York etc) The 'London Bombings' are nowhere near as 'commemorated' as Hillsborough. 9. Not many famous "Scousers" live in their home city. (as was mentioned early in the thread)
The stereotypical view af all things Liverpool might seem unreasonable and unfair to you, but as an outsider here, I can honestly say there is an easily recognisable element within it. Not that other places don't have problems, they do. I grew up in one of the worst places in the country, but - and lets forget about what we see on a night out in town (this doesn't represent a cross-section of society as a whole) - I still believe it was better than here, now. If this doesn't fit in with your view, there's nothing I can say or do about it, we'll have to agree to differ. I'd still have a pint with you :)

i havebnt posted for a day or so but you asked if it wasnt my friends attitudes which caused attitude back.
i am a very outgoing and socialble person who talks to anyone and frequently strike up conversations with randoms in bars and stuff so it definitely wasnt our attitude at fault. most of my mates are the same. some not but hey ho
regarding friendliness i always found london to be quite socialble, specially down the pub on a sunday. liverpool not so. and in fact thinking about it a cab driver tried to tell us graftons was a lovely place to go on a sat night. loads of women, easy to pull, and we wouldn't get any hassle.
turns out that was an attempted stich up as graftons is a complete hole where we definitely would get troubpe. friendly scouser that driver....

Someone has even managed to get in a dig at Scousers on the "best piece of advice you've ever been given" thread.
Fwiw Shab seems to be a decent and articulate chap that speaks a lot of sense on this thread. Studyform who lives in Liverpool but is an out of towner also makes some relevant points. On the Hillsborough thing:I too have said from that day that some supporters have blood on their hands after showing no consideration at all for those that were already in the ground. Another point:Scousers(ok not all of them) do seem to have no awareness that other people exist and may not approve of their behaviour.

Hi Study. I'll give a response to your points, which I hope you will see as not some kind of excuse, but maybe as an alternative view.
1. I do live in Liverpool
You said that earlier in the thread. I'm guessing that you are a student?
2. The McCann's are not from Liverpool, but the Garandma is, and there are posters and ribbons all over ther place round here, still.
Does the grandma live near you? If so, do you not see that it is a community sticking together and letting the grandma know that everybody is still thinking of her? That's 'community spirit' - you southerners still don't get it!
3. There is a case for arguing that 100's of drunken Liverpool fans pushed in to an already packed stand at Hillsborough, and that this caused the problems, yet this is never considered as a factor.
As I said above, there were many reasons, and many people to blame. The official reports, btw, said there was no evidence of the Liverpool fans being drunk. Those planted stories again. Coppers, eh?
As for it being the "biggest loss of life in decades". It definitely wasn't.
I can't think of one single incident where more than 96 people died in this country. But you missed the point. If 96 MPs had died, or 96 members of the royal family had died, would the evidence have been lost?
Ibrox had a similar tragedy in 1971, but I'm sure Glaswegians didn't still have the emotional outpourings you get here 20 years later.
I'm afraid you are wrong. You should use Google a bit more! http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/spl/aberdeen/memorial-to-ibrox-disaster-planned-1.645784 A PERMANENT memorial to the 66 Rangers supporters who lost their lives in the Ibrox disaster 25 years ago is to be erected by the club
4. I have never heard anyone mention Heysel.
But why should they unless the conversation warrants it? It's hardly something you chat to somebody about whilst standing at a bus stop, is it?
5. The assertion that people in Liverpool would admit to being on benefits whereas others would be embarrassed signifies that you think scousers are different to others, in contradiction to your general argument.
I think scousers are generally more open about themselves. When I lived in Liverpool, I would tell anybody who asked me anything about myself, eg, my salary, etc. Only when I moved away I realised that doing that was not seen as 'normal'.
6. I haven't even started mentioning all the over 'made up' orange women in their short skirts/legging 1/2 of whom are pushing a pram. imo you pick a scouse girl out of a lineup.
Having travelled around this country a bit, I still think Liverpool birds are up there with the best;-) But then, I'm biased. Have you ever been to Leeds? Or Sunderland? You might get a shock!
7. Considering the size and population of the place, there seems to be a disproportionate regularity and rate of serious crime, of the types I mentioned earlier.
Liverpool has the lowest crime rate of the 5 metropolitan areas in England (well it did a few years ago - I don't know latest figures). Although the level of crime might be high, it seems to be no higher than any other city in the UK. Serious crime? Like shootings? London and Manchester are streets ahead.
8. Given that it was much more recent and has more far-reaching potential effect (terrorism, links to Madrid, Bali, New York etc) The 'London Bombings' are nowhere near as 'commemorated' as Hillsborough.
But you live in the city. Of course there will be more commemorative things in the city each anniversary. The still read every name out in New York every year. It's what people do. Everywhere.
9. Not many famous "Scousers" live in their home city. (as was mentioned early in the thread)
The city has problems. I was one who left in the early 90s due to the lack of work. From what I can tell, the city still suffers from a lack of opportunities for anybody with any talent. So there is no decent paying jobs. So people with any ambition continue to leave. The sprial needs to be stopped, and only central government can do that - so it won't happen. Also, any company thinking of relocating to Liverpool will have read the Sun, so will think everybody is a robbing thug. Would they still come if that is the impression they have been given?
The stereotypical view af all things Liverpool might seem unreasonable and unfair to you, but as an outsider here, I can honestly say there is an easily recognisable element within it.
I don't mind critisism of the place, as long as it is balanced and fair. Saying that all scousers are thugs because I went into a pub once and got a funny look is laughable, really.
It has problems, mainly stemming from the lack of work and poverty. But there are also many lovely places in the city, and nice people, as I'm sure you will agree.
If this doesn't fit in with your view, there's nothing I can say or do about it, we'll have to agree to differ. I'd still have a pint with you
I don't think we do differ that much about what is happening in the city. It's just how we perceive that, and whether we see an incident as some kind of statement of the inhabitants generally, or as an isolated incident by an individual.
Hi Study. I'll give a response to your points, which I hope you will see as not some kind of excuse, but maybe as an alternative view.1. I do live in LiverpoolYou said that earlier in the thread. I'm guessing that you are a student?2. The McCann's ar
Shab. I am not a student. I've had 2 businesses and lots of different jobs in my time. I grew up in the East End of London, I've lived in a few places; Cities, town and rural, and visited more. I've been to about 20 different countries too. I can honestly say, for whatever reason I have never seen such a "Community spirit" as that which you mention, anywhere else. The community only getting together after some sort of disaster of varying scale. There are, in my experience, more *****on the shoulders of Liverpudlians than anywhere else. I have never come across any other place where it's inhabitants so often need to ask me what I think of it, or notice my accent so much. Nor have I met so many people who tell me the people of their city are the funniest (which they aren't btw), best singers, best footballers.... and so on
Successions of workmen we have employed have ALL been useless in some way, and there is an air of laziness about the whole place.
Football being almost the only topic of conversation everywhere you go. And the general feeling and attitude of aggression is palpable.
I type as I have found, and witnessed, and you won't be changing my mind.
Shab.I am not a student. I've had 2 businesses and lots of different jobs in my time. I grew up in the East End of London, I've lived in a few places; Cities, town and rural, and visited more. I've been to about 20 different countries too.I can hones
I've been to liverpool twice. The first time I went on a night out and saw 3 people lying in the street with blood pouring from them (all different locations). I saw only one fight though.
the second time I went to scally fields festival. 4 people tried to pick pocket me. I can honestly say I have never been so happy to see 100 coppers when on drugs. As I left the event there were a shed load of very angry looking men and even though I was pilling my nuts off I was very happy to see the filth.
Liverpool scares the shyt out of me.

It is very obvious that you have a view of the city that you formed before arriving, and have spent your time there looking for reasons to justify those views. 'Look and you will find' is what I said earlier in the thread.
For example, in your last response, you said "the general feeling and attitude of aggression is palpable". From that, I take it that you mean that everywhere you go you feel that people are being aggressive towards you. So you are a victim of aggression. Do you have a victim culture? It looks to me like you do. [I note that you say crime and aggression are everywhere, but you have not said how many times you have been the victim of crime, or how many times you have been the victim of assault.]
"The community only getting together after some sort of disaster of varying scale. " No. You only see the community getting together after a large event. Communities bond together in much less open ways, that you obviously don't (want to) see. You obviosly don't know any locals closely, as you never get past the opening gambit of talking about football, which is a universal conversation opener. Maybe if you got to know people better, they would actually have a meaningful conversation with you? But you would have to get down off your high horse for that.....
"I have never come across any other place where it's inhabitants so often need to ask me what I think of it". People who never leave one place always ask what an outsider thinks of their home city. If you are as well travelled as you say, you would know this (2 weeks on the Costa Brava isn't travelling btw).
"Successions of workmen we have employed have ALL been useless in some way, and there is an air of laziness about the whole place." So, your company produces second rate products, and it is the lazy workmen's fault. How long have you had this blame culture? Is it just you, or does the blame culture extend through the whole company?
So, to sum up, you have a victim and a blame culture. See - it's easy to see what you want to see when wearing blinkers.
As an aside, your complaint about the succession of lazy, bad workers. Have you ever considered that there is a weakness in your business? That weakness appears to be in the recruitment process that has continually produced low quality applicants. But...but,....but. Yes I know. You say you had 2 businesses. Did they go bust by any chance?
It is very obvious that you have a view of the city that you formed before arriving, and have spent your time there looking for reasons to justify those views. 'Look and you will find' is what I said earlier in the thread. For example, in your last re
Also, any company thinking of relocating to Liverpool will have read the Sun, so will think everybody is a robbing thug
What the hell are you talking about? You don't want people making sweeping generalizations about scousers, yet you're willing to make the assumption that eveyone else in the country reads The Sun. I never do, and nor do any of my close friends or family. I'm sure that millions of others don't either.
What makes you so sure that The Sun has an anti-Liverpool agenda anyway. You said that scousers don't read it, so how on earth would you know? Or do you scour it every day for anti-Liverpudlian sentiment so that you can add fuel to the fire of your seething resentment and sense of injustice about how the place is portrayed?

I work in a lot of the major city's and liverpool city centre is much improved , most of the folk around there are great but the exception are those under 25 , there's a lot of really bad young uns growing up there especially teenagers , non of them work , a lot are involved in drugs and they have no fear or respect at all.

I read their apology for printing lies. T
Or do you scour it every day for anti-Liverpudlian sentiment so that you can add fuel to the fire of your seething resentment and sense of injustice about how the place is portrayed?
I have lived in 5 different cities. Each has problems in equal measure. One gets for more bad press for their problems than the other 4.

maybe they just wrote that to calm the storm ;)as for no evidence for any of the fans being drunk.. sure no evidence but you can almost gurantee a load were
Of course there would have been some drunk Liverpool fans. I bet there were plenty of drunk Forest fans as well. A significant proportion of fans for every game of the era were drunk. What happened at Hillsborough could just as easily have happened to the fans of any one of the best half-dozen or so supported teams in the country at the time.

look i dont think the hillsboro discussion has anything to do with what this thread was meant to be about. fact is, imvho, hillsboro was caused by apalling policing and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to learn more about what really happened.

First of the few times I've been to Liverpool I stopped a guy to ask for directions & was told to go "down past the bloke with the big dick" (I'm sure locals know what he meant)
also I still refuse to read the Sun. Cr@p rag anyway.

England as a whole is known for being moaners and full of self pity. Everyone has got their opinions about other countries too. All French are not bottlers and they all don't go round in berets. All Australians don't have barbies and play the didgeridoo. All Americans aren't stupid and own guns. And all Russians are in the KGB. Anybody who generalises against a nation or a city are just showing their ignorance and opinions don't count in my opinion. Lets open a thread about black people and see how long it lasts. Would you all have such opinions then? My experience of Liverpool is a positive one although I can't profess to be an expert, but I'd wager that its no better or worse than other inner cities I have visited.

It is very obvious that you have a view of the city that you formed before arriving, and have spent your time there looking for reasons to justify those views. 'Look and you will find' is what I said earlier in the thread. WRONG - I was open-minded having never even visited here. For example, in your last response, you said "the general feeling and attitude of aggression is palpable". From that, I take it that you mean that everywhere you go you feel that people are being aggressive towards you. So you are a victim of aggression. Do you have a victim culture? It looks to me like you do. [I note that you say crime and aggression are everywhere, but you have not said how many times you have been the victim of crime, or how many times you have been the victim of assault. WRONG- As I mentioned earlier in this thread - I have personally witnessed crime on 3 occasions in my first couple of years here.
"The community only getting together after some sort of disaster of varying scale. " No. You only see the community getting together after a large event. Communities bond together in much less open ways, that you obviously don't (want to) see. Maybe if you got to know people better, they would actually have a meaningful conversation with you? But you would have to get down off your high horse for that..... WRONG - I'm not on any horse, high or otherwise
"I have never come across any other place where it's inhabitants so often need to ask me what I think of it". People who never leave one place always ask what an outsider thinks of their home city. If you are as well travelled as you say, you would know this (2 weeks on the Costa Brava isn't travelling btw). Now you're starting to get unnecessarily personal. and you're still WRONG
"Successions of workmen we have employed have ALL been useless in some way, and there is an air of laziness about the whole place." So, your company produces second rate products, and it is the lazy workmen's fault. How long have you had this blame culture? Is it just you, or does the blame culture extend through the whole company? You've now lost the thread completely - I don't have a blame culture, and don't actually need to explain myself to you, you could - (but it's unlikely as you seem to be taking this so fecking personally) take what I've written at face-value.
So, to sum up, you have a victim and a blame culture. See - it's easy to see what you want to see when wearing blinkers. WRONG and total bolllox
NO and I'm talking about crap workman in my house, nothing to do with business. Liverpool would be just about the last place I would open a business. Not, as I say that I need to justify myself to you.
Shab, you have now become out of order over this - like all Scousers, you seem to have a massive chip on your shoulder, whether you like it or not, Liverpool seems to be a run-down crime-ridden crap-hole, whose lazy, drunken chav inhabitants (orange for female, shaven-headed for male) have an irritating accent, drink too much, and mostly own a dangerous dog. It's how most people from outside see the place, and from what I have seen here, it's not too far removed from what it's actually like. The only reason it's easy to get round is that 1/2 the population (you included) buggered off as soon as they got the chance.
Look at the fuss when Boris Johnson**gged the place off - If it'd been about anywhere else no-one would have given a damn. With your determined beligerence - you are just reinforcing what virtually everyone else has said on this thread
and I take it back - I wouldn't have a pint with you.
It is very obvious that you have a view of the city that you formed before arriving, and have spent your time there looking for reasons to justify those views. 'Look and you will find' is what I said earlier in the thread.WRONG - I was open-minded ha
Well Studyform if you've got that opinion living in Allerton you should go to Bootle were your views would be stronger. Allerton is quite an affluent part of the city and has many professionals living there.

'Liverpool would be just about the last place I would open a business.'
there are numerous businesses opening all of the time, liverpool 1 is a business magnet in fact the city centre is one of the most viable areas for business ventures there is, the albert dock is the same, tourists come from all over the world ..lots to see and spend mney on, beatles tour, fantastic museums and better galleries than any other city apart from london, as i said liverpool 1 is thriving, theres a fantastic newish concert hall (echo arena) again a big business pull...

Study, I'm sorry if you took my last response in the wrong way, but I said " See - it's easy to see what you want to see when wearing blinkers."
What I did was to take your response, and totally misrepresenting it. Like what happens a lot in the media to Liverpool.
You went mental. Now maybe you understand my point.

people do see what they want to see, i have been to many towns and cities all over the uk and i can safely say without any doubts that liverpool is by far the classiest, cleanest, and most pleasing on the eye..all the nearby towns ie runcorn, elles port, st helens, birkenhead, even manchester arent in the same league, AND the people as ive said who live in elles port through my own experience are far more troublesome and witless to boot...

Allerton is quite an affluent part of the city and has many professionals living there. I know, I've been there a few times in the last couple of weeks, there doesn't seem to be a nice part of Bootle! Crosby is OK.
Liverpool is the most like London (especially south london) of any city I've been to. There's a nice area, then 1/2 a mile up the road you wouldn't want the car to break down.

Silk purse, Sow's ear. Actually there are some great places here. It's the people who spoil it, not so much the city itself.

There seems to be nearly as much bad news from Runcorn as in Liverpool, Tony. I think Widnes, Warrington and all the places you mention can be rough too, as can a large proportion of the country, the prevailing attitude is different in all the other places though.
Gene Hackman 06 Dec 14:43 Why do you still live in Liverpool then SF? It's where the house is.

SF They have houses in other places nearby I'm sure. The better parts of The Wirral are nice. What about Formby and the coast? There are nice parts of Cheshire not far away.
Regarding nearby towns:Here in Warrington we have rough areas. We have nice areas. We have shaven headed yobs and we have decent people.I'ts just the same in St.Helens or Wigan or Widnes or Southport or Chester or Liverpool or even towns in Southern England!

I'm not arguing with or doubting that Gene. I wouldn't want to live in several parts of sth Yorkshire either, or London. There are parts of Reading which I didn't feel happy in, Luton and Wisbech both awful. and many many more.... None of these places have the 'tradition' and attitude which is so prevalent here. As far as I'm concerned it is not like anywhere else.

Shab the original post was:- Have people who have a go at Scousers ever been to Liverpool, the answer for many is yes and have given their views. Everyones view is right because thats their view. You or I can't change that so we should accept their answers. If you go on and on you are just proving a point that you're trying to deny.
