Playing football later on, which has just reminded me I'll get my knee problem back. Having looked at diagrams online I think I've got a problem with my anterior cruciate ligament. After twenty minutes of running I then can do no more than a jog. It's only a slight pain, and goes away completely after about four days.
I'm 6'1" (spurted early teens) and have the turning circle of Robot Wars' "Sir Killalot", so maybe that's playing a part?
Anyone had preventative treatment for such a problem? Were you out of action for long? Would doing a fair amount of warming-up before the football be helpful, or largely a waste of time?
And yes I know it won't go away and that a doctor is required. Good to hear Chit Chatters' experiences though. :)
Had Schlatters knee as a teenager and buggered the ligaments in the same knee playing football in my mid twenties - bloke just stood hard down on my foot as I ran past and pop as my momentum kept on! Wasn't that painful at first, but got worse. Doctor of course said six months rest, no sport ext - was working as a landscape gardener at the time so absoltely no chance of resting it. Worst thing was the pain was just enough to wake me up at night. Just strapped up to keep it warm and after about ten months it was ok-ish. As you say though, knees (and backs) never seem to fully recover. :(
