I've never tried using any of these blighters until today. (Sony brand).

Inserted disc into DVD Recorder and got a message that the disc had to be formatted before I could use it. Duly pressed the buttons as directed, and after about 3 minutes of trying the machine gave up saying that it had been an unsuccessful attempt.

Why is this 'formatting' actually business necessary, as it has never been a factor for me when using DVD-R and DVD-RAM discs? I'd maybe wrongly assumed that it was a case of load disc, record, and when you've watched the prog and don't want to see it again you just record over the top of your original recording.

No info on the box that the disc came with.

Any ideas from the DVD+RW cognoscenti ?

Try using ImgBurn.

I'm guessing you're using Windows in built burning 'software'?

ImgBurn from here.

Thanls lads. My laptop can't cope with discs anymore. Shouldn't my DVD Recorder be able to do this formatting???
