trouble with london is there are too many tourists. People have to rush around in London and we can't be doing with fkin tourists standing in groups in the middle of the pavement looking at big ben, or northerners gawping at the amazing "moving stairs" in tube stations, no wonder Londoners are so rude to them - they deserve it.

People have to rush around in London

Why ?
Report positively4thsteet December 2, 2009 11:15 AM GMT
Buy buy buy, sell sell sell. We're all ducking and diviing, a little bit wuuurrrr, alittle bit sshhh vshhh swwwsh. We're geezers trying to make money. No time for outsiders.

Catch the train to London, stopping at Rejection, Disappointment, Backstabbing Central and Shattered Dreams Parkway
Report positively4thsteet December 2, 2009 11:18 AM GMT
Honestly though, I was always rushing around so I get more time at work (more money) or more time at the pub/home (to relax). It is not much more complicated than that I suppose.
Report CUPRA December 2, 2009 11:31 AM GMT
To offset the dullness

London could be great, with the facilities, architecture, shops, etc.

trouble is it`s a soulless dump,

so instead head north where people pretend to be nice to you so they can rob you or con you or generally fk you over!

Report positively4thsteet December 2, 2009 12:14 PM GMT
St John's Wood is delightful. Hyde Park or Regents Park on a summer weekend is delightful - still loads of room to yourself despite all thepeople and semi-organised games of football, rugby, aussi rules, baseball, cricket etc etc

Lord's, Westminster, Buck Palace, Trafalgar Square, Tower Bridge, Wembley, Theatre district etc etc.

One of the greatest cities in the world, there is no doubt.
Report nononsense December 2, 2009 12:19 PM GMT
Hyde Park?
Londoners have no concept of countryside and open spaces.

Hyde Park is just a park, but a bit bigger
Report positively4thsteet December 2, 2009 12:20 PM GMT
well you can't exactly get the lake district and chuck it on top of mayfair can you ffs.

Tokyo hardly has any green space in comparison.
Report Barry Conway December 2, 2009 12:22 PM GMT
You paint a lovely picture, but somewhat twee. Perhaps you should work for London 2012. Thats all very nice, but it doesn't make up for much when you live in a block of flats full of Somalians who have stained the pavement red with their spittle.
Report Let it Ride December 2, 2009 12:25 PM GMT
I imagine that's why it's called Hyde Park and not Hyde countryside.
Report The Magic Flea December 2, 2009 12:28 PM GMT
as a british born person, you should not have to live in a flat with a bunch of somalians. The opportunities and money that has been spent on you should've allowed to to go on to better things.
Report The Magic Flea December 2, 2009 12:29 PM GMT
and from a perspective of a professional worker, London is a fantastic place
Report Barry Conway December 2, 2009 12:30 PM GMT
I don't live with Somalians. I live in Surrey.
Report The Magic Flea December 2, 2009 12:34 PM GMT
I wasn't talking about you. All the people that whine about having to live in a tower block with immigrants have not taken advantage of what they were offered as nationals of this country.
Report The Magic Flea December 2, 2009 12:36 PM GMT
to keep it simple, I would rather that my taxes went to try and help people that were not given an oportunity in life than people that have taken all their lives without giving anything back
Report Barry Conway December 2, 2009 12:40 PM GMT
Yes but my point is the image of Londoners playing games in the park, visiting museums and admiring famous buildings is
very different form the reality experienced by most Londoners

Report The Magic Flea December 2, 2009 12:44 PM GMT

Exactly.

Also have a good few resorts on the coast with lovely people.
Report Coachbuster December 2, 2009 2:52 PM GMT

come up to east anglia and youll find people very rude and insular

If you were friendly to strangers you'd be doing nothing else all day, there are a lot of them. It's not like Haltwhistle where everyone knows each other already and take it in turns to be the village idiot.
Report Slippy Blue December 2, 2009 4:11 PM GMT
The view from Richmond Hill is fantastic. Dulwich Village is a little oasis and Blackheath is a good place to live as well. London is not all bad news although admittedly some places are best avoided but no different to any big city.
Report Tommy Toes December 2, 2009 4:27 PM GMT
I've been a visitor to London from my very early years (relatives living there) and can honestly say, I've always loved the place - but the pace is far faster than anywhere else I've been to in this country.
Which has always come as an unpleasant surprise, whenever I've been there, but I just take no notice.
Report positively4thsteet December 2, 2009 7:23 PM GMT
And what are people comparing London too?

Virtually every city in the entire world, almost without exception has rough areas.

Green Space, Size, Standing in the world, Sporting Stadia, Buildngs of historical interest, Museums, Theatres, etc

We must score highly in all of the above categories. Other cities will score more highly on various categories, but few would beat London overall.
Report G1_Jockey_4 December 2, 2009 8:08 PM GMT
to be fair most major worldwide cities do beat London on most things.

7 miles from the sntre of the city the 1 bedroom flats start at £155,000 which means that you have to earn about twice the average wage to get a mortgage. This of course is after going to the local comp where English is likely to be the 3rd or 4th most spoken language at home.
Report man of many moods December 3, 2009 10:07 AM GMT
8 million people all living on top of each other in a just a few square miles.

London must be the friendliest place on earth...
