trouble with london is there are too many tourists. People have to rush around in London and we can't be doing with fkin tourists standing in groups in the middle of the pavement looking at big ben, or northerners gawping at the amazing "moving stairs" in tube stations, no wonder Londoners are so rude to them - they deserve it.

Honestly though, I was always rushing around so I get more time at work (more money) or more time at the pub/home (to relax). It is not much more complicated than that I suppose.

so instead head north where people pretend to be nice to you so they can rob you or con you or generally fk you over!

St John's Wood is delightful. Hyde Park or Regents Park on a summer weekend is delightful - still loads of room to yourself despite all thepeople and semi-organised games of football, rugby, aussi rules, baseball, cricket etc etc
Lord's, Westminster, Buck Palace, Trafalgar Square, Tower Bridge, Wembley, Theatre district etc etc.
One of the greatest cities in the world, there is no doubt.

You paint a lovely picture, but somewhat twee. Perhaps you should work for London 2012. Thats all very nice, but it doesn't make up for much when you live in a block of flats full of Somalians who have stained the pavement red with their spittle.

as a british born person, you should not have to live in a flat with a bunch of somalians. The opportunities and money that has been spent on you should've allowed to to go on to better things.

I wasn't talking about you. All the people that whine about having to live in a tower block with immigrants have not taken advantage of what they were offered as nationals of this country.

to keep it simple, I would rather that my taxes went to try and help people that were not given an oportunity in life than people that have taken all their lives without giving anything back

Yes but my point is the image of Londoners playing games in the park, visiting museums and admiring famous buildings is very different form the reality experienced by most Londoners

It is a different place working to relaxing. I couldnt work in tahn, too many people, too smely, transport appalling, no parking. Yet, its a great place for an evening out. In my view.

London is just too cosmopitan now for it's inhabitants to show any hospitality or even common courtesies, been there a few times and always been astouded by the pure ignorance of the majority of it's inhabitants.

If you were friendly to strangers you'd be doing nothing else all day, there are a lot of them. It's not like Haltwhistle where everyone knows each other already and take it in turns to be the village idiot.

The view from Richmond Hill is fantastic. Dulwich Village is a little oasis and Blackheath is a good place to live as well. London is not all bad news although admittedly some places are best avoided but no different to any big city.

I've been a visitor to London from my very early years (relatives living there) and can honestly say, I've always loved the place - but the pace is far faster than anywhere else I've been to in this country. Which has always come as an unpleasant surprise, whenever I've been there, but I just take no notice.

Virtually every city in the entire world, almost without exception has rough areas.
Green Space, Size, Standing in the world, Sporting Stadia, Buildngs of historical interest, Museums, Theatres, etc
We must score highly in all of the above categories. Other cities will score more highly on various categories, but few would beat London overall.

7 miles from the sntre of the city the 1 bedroom flats start at £155,000 which means that you have to earn about twice the average wage to get a mortgage. This of course is after going to the local comp where English is likely to be the 3rd or 4th most spoken language at home.
