Its all about the owners....seen scores of wonderful Staffs over the years in Parks etc....
Yesterday near The Elephant and Castle at 3.30 pm..school turn-out time...buses packed and there is this "Rudeboy" with a Pitbull and a stick on the Old Kent Road. He is next to the bus stop and making the dog jump higher and higher to latch his jaws on the stick that he was waving around like a baton....dog not even on a lead.... |

Staffys make great pets...owners are the issue here.
|
|
By:
totally agree, owners are the issue, and when you've got some yob / thug on the end of the lead.......
and very often they are not even on a lead with these yobbos, that is the issue withe these dogs when they are in the wrong hands ! |

Owner problem primarily. Tw'ats getting staff type dogs just skews the statistics.
Even pit bulls have to be trained/inbred (eg crossing father with daughter) to be vicious. We used to have a staff when I was a kid. She was the loveliest dog I've ever know. All she wanted to do was lick people. I hate seeing chav d1ckheads with staffs. X-( |
|

I agree. It's extremely rare for dogs to attack people if they've been raised properly, whatever their breed. The problem with staffies is that their jaws are immensely powerful, so when they do attack they do more damage. I abhor over-regulation, but is it time to consider bringing back dog licenses? I'm not saying it's definitely the answer, more typing as I think.

Was just gonna say that HM.
All dogs to be chipped and licenced. Every dog to be inspected on issue of licence and suspect dogs either destroyed, neutered and/or ordered to be muzzled in public places. After "D-day" any unlicenced dog to be destroyed immediately. No excuses. I'm a dog owner and I'd be happy with those laws. |

I live on a council estate and every kno*head has one of these feckers. They all walk along with an undeserved sense of importance, primark tracksuit tucked in to their socks, speaking like snoop dogg on the way to get the dole. Doesn't make me feel very safe. Usually the dogs are mongrels and it is very hard to say what is a staffy cross and what is a pitbull.
I know staffies can be viscious as I have seen one kill another dog, and the owner was a nice old lady who was very upset. These dogs are so dumb that they are not as easily tamed as other breeds like dobermans or rotties. |

Cost of the above means that licences would cost £100+.
Might make people think before they commit to a dog. |
|
By:
I can assure you that the**bags around my way have no interest in complying with regulations and would not get a lisence. The cost of enforcement would be astronomical and with the fuzz stretched as it is it would only divert time from more important matters.

I`m a real dog lover but there is something about those dogs i don`t like.Maybe its their look or their power i don`t like. The trouble is with these dogs is that if they are roughed up at home or locked up 24/7 they can quiet easily turn nasty on the owners. This is quiet likely the case here but i don`t know. But they spook me out along with those rottweiller/doberman (alsations are a bit dodgy aswell) Good guard dogs mind

An owner MUST have a Licence for Each Dog he has , and carry his Dog Licence(s) around with him .
The dog to be chipped ,and Police to have Chip readers . Anybody found in the Street with an unchipped dog or No licence to be issued with a Fixed Penalty notice on the First occasion . On a second offence the Dog to be removed for good and the Owner to face a Magistrates court . Further offences to incur higher Penalties , after 5 such offences a mandatory Jail sentence . That should STOP the f******rs !! |
|
By:
what that would do is punish the law abiding majority and massively increase the price of dogs.
|
|
By:
Listen they are breeding like wildfire in the estates £150 a pup etc...It`s all pretty cruel and upsetting tbh
|
|
By:
Im a dog lover and owner and totally agree with the argument that well trained staffs can be fine, even rottweilers in the right hands make lovely pets...
However, sharp knives are also very useful and totally safe in the hands of a chef, but they are illegal to carry in the street. The same should be done with all dangerous breeds imo. |
|
By:
very important not to play fight with these dogs from when they are puppy's imo.
also dont think they are the type of dogs you you should be looking to home if you have young children in the house. but also think alot of it boils down to the owner.and these dogs would be fine with say a one parent owner either male or female with no young children. |

The cost of enforcement of licensing need not be all that great actually. Firstly, chipping a dog costs between £20 and £40. In the US, if you take in a dog from a shelter, many will get it chipped for free. Chip readers are also relatively inexpensive and (crucially) small and light. Police on the beat could easily check dogs in parks and on the street. It would take a matter of seconds. There would be no need to enter people's homes unless they received a specific complaint. Anyone who's had a dog knows that they are not that cheap to feed and keep healthy, and a one-off cost of say £50 along with an annual administrative cost of £10 would not be enough to deter true dog lovers from keeping one. Not only that, but such a system would prevent the growing problem of dog thefts.

I abhor over-regulation, but is it time to consider bringing back dog licenses? . Well said. Shame the politicians have no intention of considering this option. |
|
By:
There is no need for such dogs at the end of the day, so ban them.
|
|
By:
Suppose they will get their dog license at the same time as their Driving license
|
|
By:
In the main the lives of the chavs that breed these dogs are so small (matched only by their brains) they honestly think the dog is a status symbol, legislation should be brought in banning the breeding of these dangerous animals (pity this couldn't include the chavs themselves, but we'll never get a perfect world)

I bet under the right circumstances your little 'putty cat' would/could be capable of doing a lot of harm to someone. |

As a postie I must say Staffies are some of the friendliest softest dogs I come across. All terriers yorkshire , highland etc are the nastiest little f00kers out there. Rottweilers are also more soft and friendly than they seem

u always get people defending their lovely dogs, they could kill hundreds of children a week and THEIR dog is brought up as the friendliest, nicest animal in the world, the fact is, they can turn at a moments notice, and that inc. all breeds, they should never be left alone with children, and any attacks from dogs on kids should mean instant culling...er...for the dog of course tho some owners certainly need putting away

By:
the owner /breeder of this mutt should be locked up for a criminal offence ,the governement sent out a clear message to the owner/breeder last year when not giving a stiff enough sentance out to the uncle of the little girl killed in liverpool last january ,if he had been banged up for 5 years the owner/breeder may have decided it wasnt worth the risk.

sorry Tony but all breeds, they should never be left alone with children, is complete bullshiiit
We have two cavaliers who dont know the meaning of agression, if you put there food down and then**down to take it away whilst there eating they wouldn't bat an eyelid. The female is happy to be left alone to sleep most of the day. |
