First the old couple sailing around get captured by Somali pirates even though they knew they were near where that sort of thing goes on.
Then Olly, Tarquin, Sam and Tristan or whatever these posh little nonces were called get collared admittedly outside what they thought were Iranian waters but a lot closer to the danger zone than had they sailed round France and Spain.
Do you have sympathy for them? They know what they are doing has risk and just want to regale their posh buddies in the drawing room with tales of how they flirted with danger. Surely our government has more improtant things to deal with than saving a few twits with more money than sense who can't help but find trouble. I'd have left them out there.
Also, why does this capture not work the other way - why do we not capture foreigners sailing in our waters? Is it: (a) We don't have any waters that are our own (b) We are so nice and accomodating that anyone can sail in our waters even though the favour is not returned (c) We've let so many foreigners in now there's no point defending our waters now anyway even though we are an island nation
Was thinking along the same lines rodger...no doubt there will be a heroes parade down kensington high street and a ten minute spot on the jonathon woss show...stopid posh kunts

Since the Royal Navy sat and watched its own sailors getting captured by Iran as well as that couple taken by the Somali pirates, I expect Britons are seen as fair game.

sailor, fleeting mood image of you; all sailor in bear grace, rough hands and poetic dream; etched in sunlight at lands end; teacher in the rough most elegant and simple.
sailor, you draw me like moon pull; you dont know how alike you are, you, the sea, and the force of wild wind; so like the sun, the comfort warmth of you; I will miss you all the days of my life

The couple taken by the Somalians were pretty far out and were outside the risk area. Because of all the patrolling, the pirates are going farther and farther from shore.

didn't their boat lose power and drift out of their control ?
though admittedly our RN would have sent on engineer on board to repair any problem ...
I've never known the UK arrest anyone for being in our waters.

They are probably SEETHING that Iran didn't equip them with cheap grey suits, such as those given to the British Navy captives, later reportedly flogged on eBay.

Seeing this in the news reminded me of able seamen Arthur Batchelor, that brave sailor captured with 14 others a couple of years ago, you know the one who cried when they took his ipod off him!!!
Admiral Nelson would have been very proud...

So far, the one solitary good thing that's come out of this latest debacle, is that those original Navy hostages haven't been splashed over the media again and become 'Being Taken Hostage at Sea Correspondents'.
