Just been into the local Coorals.. saw a bloke lose £5k in about half an hour.. 5 times keyed in a £1000 behind the counter.. lost it all doing £100 a spin.

how do they actually work?

you go to the counter and exchange cash for tokens, something like that?

never gone near them in a bookies and don't want to

Nah you physically put notes in or give the cash behind the counter to be put in remotely by the staff. This bloke put a grand in 5 times using a credit or debit card :O

Seems very shrewd

Nobody forced him to do it. Although I feel sorry for anyone who he owes money to, as they would be unlikely to be aware of the full extent of his retardation. Although, maybe he is a millionaire!

Okay betting £5k on a real roulette wheel, but on electronic roulette? Mentalist.

Its amazing isn't it, you can put £5,000 into a machine in a bookies not a bother, but you struggle to get £100 on a horse or dog ?:|

They are VILE!!

Yes they should Easter. I could write a 5,000 word essay on all that's wrong with FOBT's and why they should be abolished.

Evil evil things.

Clever thou imo.

How they can keep you hooked and give you the occasional win to keep you hooked.

They give the occasional win because that's the law of averages. They don't give quite as many occasional wins as they should.

Oh MN ... I remember.

Lost his marriage, job the lot!. Last time I saw him he'd won £9k, and was in the process of losing it all back - when it got to about £65 (less than £100 per spin) he walked out, and left it for me "Off what he owes me"

How the feck does he get access to that kind of wedge?

Very sad, I can see him going the same way as the other bloke who topped himself who we knew Paulie :(

The biggest shame is he's a nice guy.

There is no limit to the problems FOBT's cause.
The big bookies, and developers of said machines have caused much misery, more then just betting shops ever did.
