I was on the Crystal Maze in 1993. So far i have seen my episode on T.V. over 20 times. This is a constant reminder of my fading youth. Like i am haunting myself. Damn you Challenge channel.
It was freezing in that studio (was inside an old aircraft hanger), so when they did start the fans i couldn't feel my fingers let alone pick up those flimsy gold tokens.

When I first came here, after years of being under pressure of dealing with schedules of artists, etc, I decided to have some fun.
Spent my time reading classified where most of the shows advertise. I found one that was a pilot where you went in front of three judges and pleaded a case for them to give you £5000.00
My idea was to auction off footballs that would raise money for charity. From there, you would have an opportunity to take a penalty on a premier league keeper. The idea made the cut and I received £75 if I showed up. So I did.
There were three lines with each judge at the front as people had a minute to plead their case. I realized the judges had been fed lines knowing what each person was bringing so they could brush off most with a "Simon Cowell" approach. So realizing that most of us had been set up for "good television, I decided to have some fun and switched lines at the last moment.
I can't remember who the judge was (some UK celeb) but when I pleaded my case, the judge had no idea what to say. She couldn't adlib and started stuttering. Then said "we don't do charity" and brushed me off saying "next".
Decided to go out in flames; "you don't do charity? You self-riteous...etc". She went blank staring at me then looking for help. I was laughing inside as I kept hitting her with lines and she couldn't respond. "If I had a ball now, I'd whack it off your forehead", etc. The other groups stopped, all the cameras were on me and her and everyone watched as I kept saying "I suppose you'd rather give it to that lady who wanted her flat done up than a charity?", etc.
She just stared unable to come up with responses.
Never made it to air but the assistant director did invite me afterwards in the truck to see the raw footage.
