Asked him what he wants it for and the answers (in order) are: music, video, internet and then games.
Am I right in thinking to get the internet outside of our house, it will cost a fortune (unless he only uses it in Starbucks who have free wi-fi) and that he can download everything at home off our wi-fi connection via his laptop.
Have told him the Internet is a no no, and that you can pick up a Philips 16gb mp3 player with video for £95 so there is no point in effectively paying £145 just to play games on it as he has a DS!!

can use your own home wireless to set it up for the internet, can email on a ipod, jailbreakin it can add loads of free games.

he only wants it to use the Internet when he's "down the park with his friends". Quite happy to download everything from his laptop at home !!
If one of his mates has one, the rest won't be able to live without one.
so what's the diff between Ipod Touch and a 16gb Mp3/video player for £95 then, apart from Internet that he can use at home on his laptop ?

Especially if its to use socially get the legit brand not an obvious cheaper version.

Free game for the ipod/ ipod touch for the next 30 days, some of these (if not most) will work on your mobile as well. (you'll need to download Itunes)

He will be relieved of it down the park by New Year (NAP), save your money and buy him the cheaper one.
