Does anyone here actually think Iran is a nice place? Religious intolerance, hatred for gays, a belief that women are subservient. Ticks a few boxes I'm sure. Personally I rather like tolerant, liberal, Britain.

I think you'll find that the issue was that some clown, sorry, defender of freedom, claimed that every single Iranian is, and I quote "a c**t". You might not see that as a bit of a strange statement, from your PC Gone Mad Warrior point of view but it strikes me as particularly close to the stance of people like Ahmadinejad himself. |

He's made what might be an unfounded, possibly unfounded, presumption about reasoning maybe, I agree.
But I don't think it's particularly unreaswonable to question the rationale of "he looks like a nutter to me" as a premise for poltiical reasoning. It's hardly high level reasoning. What is it? The beard? His haircut? |

Well, if you read it back, you actually claimed that every single man woman and child in Iran is 'a c**t' and then attempted to defend it with some sort of "they don't believe in freedom of speech" stance. (We'll leave aside the political and social culture of many parts of Iran for now)

Thing is Live Forever, you're making this into something that it's not...I'm not looking for a platform for an argument / heated discussion...I said earlier that it was a throwaway line...the footy punters have a whole forum with similar remarks aimed at just about everyone but I don't see you jumping in there and taking a stand.
For you to be so upset must mean there is some sort of Iranian connection for you...now, in the interests of detente, I am publicly apologising to you for calling all Iranians cvnts , however my view on Ahmedinejad is unchanged. Does this straighten the matter out ? |

The difference between people like me (as you put it) and 'my' counterparts in Iran are quite simply that I believe in freedom of speech and I'm not about to strap an explosive belt around my body and detonate it in a crowded place
