Football is the largest spectator sport in the UK, for 'men'.

These 'men' who worship 11 gayers in shorts, also suffer from defective eyesight, as one half of the crowd always seem to be watching a different match to the other half. This is proved when one side is given a penalty, Half the fans cheer, but the other half question the referees eyesight and also insist that his parents are not married.

Horse racing is the second largest spectator sport in the UK. The Sport of Kings, not tattooed skinheads who wear footie shirts at the age of 30+

Jenson Button- F1 driver world champion
David Haye - world heavyweight champion
Phillips Idowu - long jumper or triple jumper not sure which.
Andy Murray - tennis player
Tom Daley - Olympic diver
Ryan Giggs - footballer

Andrew Strauss - cricketer ?
Jessica Ennis - Is she a pentathlete ?

Beth Tweddle - no idea
Mark Cavendish - no idea

Cavendish has arguably achieved more than the cyclist who won it last year!

It's for the year isn't it? Did McCoy get 3000 winners this year? Are the pro-McCoy boys saying he should be given an award for hitting a nice landmark? Of course he shouldn't. :^0

Him winning it would be tantamount to Giggs winning the most recent PFA Player of the Year award, just because some direction-less cûnts decided a few good games at his age made him a better player than the ones who actually did have a good season.

That was a joke of the highest order.

All that said, I really don't know who should win. Can we not just give it to Hoy again? :D

I didn't mean to offend The Dragon. I have heard of all of them.

Jenson Button - it was the car what won it. Car trundling has a big folllowing though. Top 3 for sure.
Mark Cavendish - cyclist won last year, this one more talented but no chance.
Tom Daley - 14 year old girls do not vote in sufficiently high numbers for SPOTY, no chance.
Jessica Ennis - won a world title in a minority athletic discipline, should have no chance but a nice looking lady. Top 3.
Ryan Giggs - deserves an award for the exemplary way he has played the game thoughout his career, but not just this year - no chance.
David Haye - beat an extremely large Russian tree - no chance.
Phillips Idowu - hopping skipping and jumping is not an elite event, no chance.
Andy Murray - a brilliant talent, won more titles this year than anyone else. Should win in my opinion but may have to wait until he wins Wimbledon next year. Unless the people who voted for Hoy get on the phone again. Top 3.
Andrew Strauss - more important this year than Freddie was when he won it, but not a big enough profile. No chance.
Beth Tweddle - gymnastics not a proper sport. No chance.

to go back to my original point...

why is Chrissie Wellington not here!

She is in a minority sport, but it is a proper sport in every sense of the word. World Iron Woman champion 3 years in a row, when she won the euro championship she was 90 secs behind the mens winner over the same distance! She is brilliant at what she does. Not a sport that last 90 mins... Iron woman contests lasts upwards of 7 hour, pain sweat and determination.

British woman truely great and better than any other woman in the world, be proud of her FFS instead of pushing her aside for (andrew Strauss!!!!! philips Idowu! seriously)

The only decent personality I can think of off the top of my head is Wayne Mardle...although he doesn't win much :-)

BJK every year the same. I gave up watching when Greg Rusedski won it despite winning absolutely sweet fa.

McCoy rides day in day out, like most jockeys, through pain barriers unknown to other sportsmen/women, keeping himself fit, half-starved and giving his all in every race he rides in , whether it be for a tuppeny 'appeny prize or for the biggest there is.

For that alone he should be rewarded as the SPOTY one year, on behalf of all jockeys (especially NH ones).

Spot on Tommy - and a fantastic ambassador for his sport too. Ten seconds after a 3 and a half mile chase he won on some reluctant rogue of a nag, breathing like a fat lass at altitude and some Channel 4 clown shoves a mike in his face and he still answers every banal question politely.
By:
Tommy Toes
When: 30 Nov 09 18:55
- not forgetting, he faces the possibility of death or serious, permanent injury every time he gets on a horse.
How many other sportsmen/women do that every day of their sports careers?

Tommy Toes
When: 30 Nov 09 18:56
Exactly, HRH - and never even winces at the 'Ho ho ho' clown in chief!

Well said Tommy and your highness. I am absolutely gutted that we have not been given the chance to vote for McCoy. I rarely vote for anything on tv but I would have voted until the lines closed if he had been selected. How such nonenties could have been chosed over him I do not know.

thanks for that, luddite. I will bear that in mind when picking my next years SPOTY and I think I will phone and complain to my newspaper.
