I think in this day and age we're all lucky enough to have enough and if we need something, we go out and buy it. I think it's nice this time of year to do something for other people for a change.
at 16+ they don't need toys and crap anymore. Sure it's nice to have a few nice things on xmas day but doing an Oxfam gift at this age will be a good lesson in what this time of year means these days in a generally non christian society.
Or you could just get them something from argos, you know whatever suits.

I agree with that HRH! My 12 year old asked me today at what age is it ok to lose one's virginity! I nearly choked on my roast pork.(no pun intended) I told her 35. I had forgotten how quickly they grow up once they hit high school.
