DRUNKEN David Jones was left with his pants down after he tried to rob a man. The 21-year-old defendant approached a Polish couple outside their Bentilee flat and demanded their car keys. Despite hitting his victim over the head, the man managed to get away from Jones by pushing him over a fence and pulling his tracksuit bottoms down. Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the couple had recently moved to the estate before the incident on December 14 last year. Prosecutor Siobhan Collins told the court Jones demanded the man give him his car keys. After pushing a shotgun cartridge into the victim's head, Jones struck him with what is believed to be a vodka bottle. The man was knocked to the floor but retaliated. "He grabbed him by the waist and knocked him over the fence on to the ground. "The defendant continued to lash out with his feet, but the man used the defendant's tracksuit bottoms to restrain him," Miss Collins said. The victim suffered swelling to his head, headaches and vomiting. Jones, of Brundall Oval, Bentilee, was arrested in March this year. He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery on October 22, the day of his trial. Paul Cliff, mitigating, said there was no pre-planning and Jones was remorseful. Judge Mark Eades described Jones as prone to violence and jailed him for 43 months.
