I've always been a cooker person, but think microwaving might be the way to go. Never done it though, and have visions of it overflowing and making a mess. Attraction is I wouldn't have to stand over a cooker for 6 minutes, giving it a stir every so often. Any tips much appreciated.

Hob.

7/8 mug of Flahavan's Organic Jumbo Irish Oats. (Though Scotch will do if you are really hard up)

2 1/4 mugs cold water.

Bring to the boil. Boil for 5 minutes, stirring nearly all the time. Pinch of salt after 4 minutesish.

Pour into bowl, leave for 10 minutes until cooled and set.

Scrapings into dog bowl.

Sprinkle of demerara and splash of milk.

don't put it in the microwave unless you want to nuke it !!!

and also this cold weather - when the porridge is ready, take it off the heat and add a splash of whisky.

This 3 minutes in the microwave business, is that on full power? Only I put them in for one and a half minutes and they come out very hot.

Well. I just made my first bowl of microwaved porridge. Half of it is lying on the floor of the oven. :(

Bit trickier than I thought.

you're better off with those porage in sachets specially made for the microwave(which the ex had and how I know about it)

if you're just using Scott's Porage oats, best used on the hob

It depends on the power of the microwave oven so start with a short time and build up.

Scott's Porage Oats is exactly the same as Quaker Oats, except the packaging, obviously.

Irish oats are far superior to Scotch.

I couldn't believe the difference when I tried them last year.

And Asdas are doing 1.5 kg bags of standard Flahavan's for 99p and that's a bargain that should appeal to any Scotsman.

Skimmed milk is nothing to do with 'carbon footprints'. Whole milk has a lot of saturated fat, which contributes to heart disease, diabetes, obesity and many other diseases. I love whole milk with porrige, but don't use it. There's a milk you can get which is just 1% fat, which is about half the fat of semi-skimmed. I use that.

Microwave, as I'm always in a massive rush. TBF, I think I've mastered it now after years of trial & error. Works well with a tiny blob of golden syrup imho :x
