I actually got stopped by the police while walking down the middle of a motorway once. I didn't KNOW it was a motorway at the time, just thought I was on pavement in the middle of a road. They searched me, nicked (i think) some money, then told me to walk to the services on the hard shoulder!

I tell you one thing, they were definitely fecking hard. BOTH survived getting runover on a motorway! One got runover, knocked unconscious, woke up, beat up a copper, and then ran across the motorway again.

Our British drug-addled nutters take note.

Bit useless from the police. Unlucky to let the 1st one get away at 1st and I guess they were in shock but they could have grabbed the 2nd. Then letting the 2nd one get up and run off, even if its the last thing you were expecting

It's Lithuania. It's a common misconception that it's Sweden. It was a myth propogated by the US government decades ago when the Swedish were somehow bizarrely blending aspects of communism and capitalism in the successful running of their country. Fearing the communist threat, the US started saying Sweden had the highest suicide rate in the world.
Report sparkmaster. September 25, 2008 10:22 PM BST
Cracking conspiracy theory that.

"How can we discredit communism men?"
"Well let's put out a rumour that a country has the highest suicide rate in the world!"
"Brilliant! Which country? A communist one?"
"No"
Report inner city sumo September 25, 2008 10:25 PM BST
From a repeat of QI a couple of nights back, they had the question, which country has the highest suicide rate. ;)

Complete and utter imbeciles (the Swedes).
To think, the staff at the hospital then had to deal with them in A&E when genuine, seriously ill people would be being treated at the same time.
Report Tommy Toes September 27, 2008 12:25 AM BST
If anyone has been in A&E in emergency situations, they would know nutcases like that are the last thing the overworked, fraught staff in the NHS need.
Report Tommy Toes September 27, 2008 12:26 AM BST
All their own doing, putting so many lives at risk.
Total selfishness.
Report stewardsenquirey September 27, 2008 12:29 AM BST

Report sparkmaster. September 27, 2008 12:30 AM BST
Yeah Tommy, I was in A& E a couple of years back because I'd had a contact lens knocked round my eye - they treated some daft runover b1tch before me just because she'd several broken limbs, it annoys me to this day.
Report stewardsenquirey September 27, 2008 12:32 AM BST
Should have given you enough time to find out who does their printing then ;)
Report sparkmaster. September 27, 2008 12:32 AM BST
lol
Report Tommy Toes September 27, 2008 12:35 AM BST
Sparky, I've been many times to A&E when idiots like those pair are given priority treatment because they're deemed to be priority, eg idiotic wenches overdosing on drugs and alcohol because they're thick, attention seekers.
In the meantime, genuinely, seriously ill people are not treated quickly enough.
Believe me. I've been there. Many times.
Report sparkmaster. September 27, 2008 12:43 AM BST
To be honest Tommy, being deemed to be a priority is IMO a pretty good reason to be given priority. Now those police could have chosen to detain some bramblers, but in this case I think trying to stop the high as kite swedes from killing themselves was probably the right thing to do.
Report stewardsenquirey September 27, 2008 12:44 AM BST
The ones that really get my goat are the teenagers that roll in,blood splattered, girlfriend and friends drapped round them like they have some sort of hero status because they have just had some alcohol induced fight. And when they are told they have to wait like the rest of us.They then want to go have a pop again and resort to abusing a young nurse that can't help to raise her eye brows and think "here we go again" and all for 16k a year :0
Report Child of the Rafalution September 27, 2008 12:47 AM BST
is 16K a real figure? :( if so
Report Tommy Toes September 27, 2008 12:50 AM BST
Yes, a 'priority' too many in my speed to type, Sparky.
Nevertheless, it comes down to our over-burdened emergency services having to deal with idiots like the Swedish pair that causes patients with sudden health emergencies to be put on the 'back-burner' - and who knows how many lives are lost because of such utter selfish behaviour by the culprits?
Report Tommy Toes September 27, 2008 12:54 AM BST
By the way, I think the police do an immense job. I'm not saying they shouldn't have reacted in the way they did at all - nor the air ambulance crew, nor the staff at the hospital they eventually attended (quite probably North Staffs).
That's what makes this country great.

What I am saying is: the two Swedish woman were total and complete self centered attention seekers who put no end of lives at risk and deserved punishment for their behaviour.
Report sparkmaster. September 27, 2008 12:54 AM BST
i agree, largely, I think people who are essentially in charge of others 'wellbeing' should be paid more AND have higher standards demanded of them.

It's a bit personal for me. My mother had a 'cardiac incident' a few days ago. When my brother called to ask after her he was told 'she is no longer with us', after a certain amount of panic he was told 'no, she's not dead, she's in the stroke unit'. after further panic he was told 'No she hasn't had a stroke we just thought it would be quieter for her'.

When I called, it was like speaking to the teacup operators at Alton Towers. I would'nt expect House, but someone who had a vague idea they worked in a hospital would have been nice.

Her condition stabilisied after two days, she then contracted a bug, had a fever, and my dad insisted on taking her home a couple of days later. They've done tests, but they're secret. Our local GP will know apparently. Am sure she's fine, but Jeeeeesus!
Report stewardsenquirey September 27, 2008 12:55 AM BST
Not sure what the answer is TT.Americas health policy makes them think before they act.Because no cash,no treatment. But look how loons you still have over there.
I do actually think England has one of the better health systems from around the world. But it does get abused because of how easy it is.
Report stewardsenquirey September 27, 2008 12:57 AM BST
Jesus, thats bad Sparky. To be told that over the phone and then find out it was in correct X-(
Report sparkmaster. September 27, 2008 1:05 AM BST
I was a bit miffed! My dad, to his credit, spared me the panic by only telling me after the 'worst' was over. I missed out the bit where they ran loads of tests on the Thursday, on account of her being unable to breathe, but told her the results wouldn't be available until Monday because 'no-one's in at the weekends'
Report Tommy Toes September 27, 2008 1:11 AM BST
Stewards, of anything Britain has ever done, the creation of The National Health Service is one of - if not THE - greatest things it has ever achieved.
I have nothing but admiration for all those involved in it - from the very start to now.

Sparky, I too have had to deal with people on the 'phone who aren't best suited to be there and it's very frustrating because it's YOUR relative you're concerned about and aren't getting a 'aporth worth of sense about.
However, after spending many, many hours in various departments and wards at first hand, I think the work the doctors, nurses and 'auxillieries' do is absolutely phenomenal.
Especially under the strain they have to continually work under.
Idiots like the Swedes only put more burden on a fantastic but beleagured institution - all by their own doing - and genuine people suffer because of it.
Report sparkmaster. September 27, 2008 1:16 AM BST
I think they were also people Tommy, unless you have evidence otherwise.
