Last year wifes nother died (old age) We stored all her stuff in our spare room waiting for the relatives to come and sort through it.
Anyway one day the wife was really upset because our cat died , distraght really. Anyway ,as i walked past the spare room i noticed a smell of flowers. When iopened the door to the room the scent was very strong ,so strong that it filled the whole house. It was a lovely calming sort of smell and seemed to brighten my wife up straight away.
I went all through that room and there was nowhere that smell could of come from . It was winter and there was no way it could of come from the outside.
It dissapeared as quickly as it arrived , was all very odd , still cant explain it
Seems to me these ghost sightings are always ambiguous, mysterious, dimly-lit, middle of the night affairs. If ghosts really exist surely one of them would just stroll up during the middle of the day and say "Hi, I'm a ghost, nice to meet you" or words to that effect.
imo Ghosts are in the same category as Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, God etc

A few years ago I went on a four month walking trip through Scotland to get over a spinal injury. Most nights I stayed with friends or relatives but now and then I would spend the night outside alone. I had a sleeping bag and got my head down wherever I happened to be.
One night, Midsummer's Night in fact, I stopped at a derelict bothy (shepherd's hut) on a lonely stretch near Loch Glascarnoch. I don't think there was a living soul for 40 miles. It didn't get properly dark until around midnight and I dozed off after a cold supper.
Although it was a warm night, I woke shivering with cold just after one o'clock. I'm not given to fancies but something filled me with dread. A smell permeated the bothy, the smell of something long dead. Then I saw it. Crouched in the broken doorway, it was hunched and grinning at me. It looked like a small man, very thin and with a hideous pale and pointed face.
I tried to struggle out of the sleeping bag but my back locked with the sudden movement and I was trapped on the floor inside the bag. The thing, whatever it was, made its approach slowly. It sort of loped around the room before it finally stopped near the end of the bag then suddenly lunged out and grabbed my ankle through the cover.
It was amazingly strong because it dragged me one-handed, bag and all, to the door and I'm no lightweight. The stench from it was overpowering and I could hardly breathe. The only light in the place was from a small paraffin lamp that I'd set above the mantel. I suddenly heard soft, chattering noises from outside. I somehow knew that if this thing, this fiend or whatever it was, could get me outside into the darkness with its friends then that would be the end of me.
As my bag was dragged through the old door, I reached out with both hands and grabbed the doorframe on either side of me. The wood was rotten but it held. I could feel other hands from outside grasp my ankles and pull. I knew the doorframe would give out in within the minute but I held on like a drowning man holds a straw. The chattering increased and I could feel the damnable creatures pulling, pulling, pulling my leg. Much like I'm pulling yours.

Many years ago my wife and I went camping with another couple to Disserth in Wales. There is very little at Disserth now as most of the inhabitants died in the Great Plague. There is now a quite flourishing camp site next to the church there but in those days the site was little more than a field with a tap and ours were the only two tents in the field. Although we had been away many times with this couple, on the first night they kept us awake all night by talking in low voices loud enough to hear but not enought to discern what was said. The next morning we asked what was the matter and why were they talking all night. They replied "that wasn't us we thought it was you and were about to ask the same thing.

Went to reputedly 'Britain's most haunted' place, in some vaults under a bridge in the centre of Edinburgh. Proper scary, but no sign of any ghosts. My mate once tried to summon the devil once (when we were, like, 11) but nowt came of it! Thought my house was haunted the other night, but as it turned out it was the back gate banging in the wind. I reckon if I ever saw a ghost I'd properly papp myself tbh :(
