same question as always.

What about ridiculous charges for NOT being allowed an overdraft, or for bouncing a cheque (maybe because funds you had paid in had bounced)

for example (in my case) A charge of £120 and rising within 3 weeks for NOT paying a direct debit which would have made me £3 o/d.

should we laugh at that too?

All those who go overdrawn should be charged and the money passed onto those who stay in the black as a form of bonus payment, particularly as we get sweet fa on our savings.

betfair should open a bank, and we earn interest on it by them backing 1.01's

Nobody minds the banks making a fair profit on risk and earning an income by charging for their services. However, they do appear to have moved into the realms of usury, and the sort of charges Study mentions are blatantly unfair when the customer doesn't have the option to go elsewhere instead of accepting them.

I changed a standing order from my wages to bills account and put in the wrong month (sept instead of Aug) for the next payment. The accounts are linked so I had the money in the bank and they knew it.

They paid my 1st few DD's and charged me £35 my fault swallow it and move on. The problem is I noticed this 3 days later transfered the money accross and then got a £75 charge as the over draft went over 2 months (3 days in reality) now thats an unfair charge

A cunning trick of the banks is always to take off the debits from your account before putting on the credits. You therefore could pay in a load of cash, which they can see has been paid in but not yet credited to your account but still get hammered for overdraft charges because they'll take payments from your account before crediting the cash.
A good thing to remember wtih the banks is they give you an umbrella when the sun is shining and take it away when it rains.

My bank manager once asked me to come in to see him to discuss my overdraft facility even though the business didn't actually use it. I had to take in the latest accounts which he looked through and then charged a fee for agreeing the overdraft which had been set up on the account about 5 years ago but never needed.
All was well until he said he would need to see me again in 3 months to again agree the overdraft facility. When he confirmed that of course there would need to be another fee at that stage I told him where to shove his facility and changed banks.

I suppose the other banks were so much better Larry?

no banks are decent enough, it's outwith our control sadly
