The day has arrived, hopefully no interferences like his last court appearence.

The judge has warned "he may face a prison sentence"...... i hope so, lets see that the justice system and all that is British can hold its head up high today.

What was he actaully charged with?
Report pumphol. November 26, 2009 8:09 AM GMT
should be flogged imo, but because of media attention the sentence will be disproportionate, he will probably get a longer sentence that a killer driver will somewhere else today.
Report Paddy Mayne November 26, 2009 8:10 AM GMT
14 cans of Fosters by the sound of it. :)
Report Black Whippet November 26, 2009 8:10 AM GMT
charged with "outraging public decency"
Report History Maker November 26, 2009 8:10 AM GMT
There are plenty of people who do worse and get let off with just a caution. I'd rather the prison space went to someone who actually assaulted someone.

Some very obvious and embarassing community service would be better for the student p!sser

Bet he's p*ssing his pants with fear .
Report man of many moods November 26, 2009 8:14 AM GMT
Well, yes, everyone was rightly outraged but it hardly warrants a custodial sentence.

A few days in the stocks being pelted with rotten eggs/vegetables is probably a much more fitting and humiliating punishment.
Report Black Whippet November 26, 2009 8:15 AM GMT
My point is not the fact that he was urinating in public but the fact of where he urinated.

I have and know of many people that have relieved themselves in a shop doorway or alleyway but no matter how drunk I have been I always know where Im doing it.

On a War Memorial is just a down right disgrace.
Report Black Whippet November 26, 2009 8:18 AM GMT
Its reported that he "drank a bottle of whisky before attending an organised drinking session"

99.9% of people would be on there back after a bottle of whisky, they are trying to make it out as some sort of excuse............there is just no excuse to his behaviour.
Report Alex69 November 26, 2009 8:20 AM GMT
Hang him by the neck until he cops it imo, the digusting bast

Report man of many moods November 26, 2009 8:21 AM GMT
I can't imagine anyone's going to disagree with you. That's whay putting him in the stocks is a much better idea. Then everyone could pi$$ on him instead.
Report sparkmaster. November 26, 2009 8:23 AM GMT
Ridiculous if he gets jail time, when people who cause actual harm get off.
Report Alex69 November 26, 2009 8:24 AM GMT
Stocks is quite a good idea for all disrespectful** as it goes, especially given the ease at which one can require handguns these days, or so I've heard
Report jimmy69 November 26, 2009 8:24 AM GMT

Actually, the most appropriate punishment would be for him to have to go and work in either a home for retired veterans or at Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) Headley Court, which is for inpatient soldiers who have lost limbs, sight, hearing, use of their legs and other serious injuries. Many of those there are little older than he is.
Report man of many moods November 26, 2009 8:33 AM GMT
Is that the same Headley that's near Leatherhead?
Report monmore man November 26, 2009 8:34 AM GMT
As much as I want a society where jail is a punishment for such crimes, I do think the thought of him being jailed whilst some dangerous mugger or burglar walks free seems a tad unfair.
Report Six of Clubs November 26, 2009 8:36 AM GMT
good post HM. that would be very appropriate.

Within five days it is quite possible that a woman who bludgeoned her boyfriend to death for not marrying her will walk out of an open prison mid-sentence whilst a man who has a wee in a public place gets locked up in a secure prison.
Report Black Whippet November 26, 2009 8:45 AM GMT
Off to court now will report what he gets upon my return.........im hoping to see a blacked out prison van leaving Sheffield Magistrates Court in a few hours time, just a couple of months may do.
Report sparkmaster. November 26, 2009 8:49 AM GMT
It'll probably be on the news to be honest.
Report BillKiller November 26, 2009 9:00 AM GMT
While I agree that History Maker's suggestion would do the culprit some good, I wouldn't want to inflict his kind on blokes who are having a hard enough time as it is.

He should be let off with a warning, I think. He's probably suffered enough fear and humiliation by now. Now the filth who painted swastikas on another war memorial are a different thing. Jail time and plenty of it for them.
Report sparkmaster. November 26, 2009 9:01 AM GMT
Well said.
Report Big Charlie November 26, 2009 9:34 AM GMT
I'm sure he won't go to prison, probably get bound over to keep the peace for year and cop a £200 fine.

He's lucky that a sober off-duty soldier wasn't passing by when he did it.

35 years ago it wouldn't have been been pretty if my grandad (R.I.P.) saw somebody do it.
Report BillKiller November 26, 2009 10:09 AM GMT
Yes, he's lucky that he wasn't caught in the act but there aren't many who would lamp him in cold blood after the event. I don't think he was being intentionally insulting and he's got a shock from the public reaction which has been great.

to be fair disrespect is not in itself a crime. His punishment should reflect his crime, ie the p*ssing in public etc. I am in no way condoning it of course it was a horribly dis-respectful act but a custodial sentence would have been obscene. Punishments are after all also supposed to offer rehabilitation to the offender. Where as I am far from a liberal I do think that in cases such as this it is entirely possible that the kid will have learnt his lesson, has been duly punished and is extremely unlikely to do it again. To suggest that he deserved beating or whatever lowers us to the level of less civilised states.

A bit of a let off for the kid, but cant understand why Sheffield Uni havent chucked him out yet.........I thought that would be the first course of action.

Are the Uni saying this sort of behaviour is acceptable ....... I had my two penneth shout at him, and nice of the Sheffield Star to publish his picture so all can see his mug.

as for ruining his future, a sports technology degree from Sheffield Hallam is hardly much of a future. surely if he got kicked out now, he would make that deputy manager position at McDonalds a good few years earily.

Understanably the nation is outraged at the lack of respect this guy has shown forour war dead but lets put this into perspective - he has hot harmed anyone, he was totally bladdered and**ed over some poppy wreaths, probably the closest thing to vegitation or plant life in his drunken addled brain. Muggers, robbers and thugs who have physically assaulted people get less community service than this guy and loads of people are still calling for his head. Seems a bit severe to me.
Report Petrus Romanus November 26, 2009 2:49 PM GMT
Tie him to a tree in the town square and send an open invite to all war vets to attend at any point during the day, between 9 - 5, so that they may line up and p!ss all over him.
Report Tevez is God November 26, 2009 2:49 PM GMT
bottom line is, he didn't know what the ** he was doing. he didn't intentionally set out to disrespect the war dead and if he'd been sober he would probably have recoiled at the mere thought of it. he will have learned form this, and the cell that he won't be occupying can now be used to accommodate a proper criminal imo

Surely it's about intent.

There's a difference between setting out to desecrate a memorial, and having a psss because you're busting, and it's the nearest thing to pish against.
As Billkiller says.

As a former shop owner, I can state that**sing in a shop doorway isn't acceptable either btw.

Common sense prevails and the community service imposed was the right decision. No point in giving the bloke a custodial after all, a pi$$ed up student with no recollection of what he did and a prison record would haunt him for the rest of his life. The judge got it spot on I reckon.
