Report LoveTheShoes November 25, 2009 3:07 PM GMT

Report yeahyeahwhatever November 25, 2009 3:12 PM GMT
ok, so when you use the arrow keys to move arround - does a black border around each cell (box) move as you move the arrows?
Report LoveTheShoes November 25, 2009 3:13 PM GMT
yes
Report yeahyeahwhatever November 25, 2009 3:14 PM GMT
Some questions for you:

is this a NEW spreadsheet, or are you opening one that's already been created?
What version of Excel are you using?
ARe you trying to type in just numbers?
Report LoveTheShoes November 25, 2009 3:16 PM GMT
its a spreedsheet i have created over a week ago...

just normal microsoft excel.

i put informaton into it numbers and words.
Report yeahyeahwhatever November 25, 2009 3:17 PM GMT
Ok, so when you created it, did you apply any protection and/or locking?
Report yeahyeahwhatever November 25, 2009 3:17 PM GMT
and... did you save it with a password?
Report yeahyeahwhatever November 25, 2009 3:18 PM GMT
sorry, one more :-)

when you look at the sp file in windows explorer - does it say Microsoft Excel Workbook or something else?
Report V4 Vendetta November 25, 2009 3:18 PM GMT
If you navigate to a cell with words in it and press "F2", what happens?
Report PoolFC November 25, 2009 3:19 PM GMT
I think your computer is broken and you will need to buy a brand new one.

Either that or your Excel is broken and needs to be uninstalled and replaced with a new copy.
Report LoveTheShoes November 25, 2009 3:20 PM GMT
no i never saved it with any password or anything like that.

its just completly stopped letting me put information into it.
Report yeahyeahwhatever November 25, 2009 3:21 PM GMT
Ok, if you close the sp (and excel down) and then open it back up again - do you get any messages or warnings?

(you computer/excel isn't broken - so ignore those comments)

Amazon Books- Excel for Dummies £12.99
Report LoveTheShoes November 25, 2009 3:25 PM GMT
when i re open it. it says "enter product key" but it has always said that. never needed it before.
Report HarryCrumb November 25, 2009 3:26 PM GMT
Have you tried hitting it.
Report SNOOCH November 25, 2009 3:27 PM GMT
You would load on fake/copied software, the police will chap your door soon
Report yeahyeahwhatever November 25, 2009 3:27 PM GMT
right, when it says "product key" is that ON the sp (in a box/cell) or is it a pop-up message (a gray box in the middle of the screen)?
Report yeahyeahwhatever November 25, 2009 3:29 PM GMT
Have you tried clicking on Tools then Protection

can you see any options there which start with Unprotect...
Report LoveTheShoes November 25, 2009 3:33 PM GMT
product key comes up in the middle but thats it asa pop up.
Report yeahyeahwhatever November 25, 2009 3:38 PM GMT
ok, we're getting somewhere now. YOu said you created this sp, so did you

a) use VBA to create the pop-up yourself?

b) modify an existing sp or use a wizard to help you create the pop-up automatically?
Report LoveTheShoes November 25, 2009 3:39 PM GMT
i honestly couldnt tel you.. iv had one before but its always just popped up automatically and iv just "x" on the top right.
Report yeahyeahwhatever November 25, 2009 3:42 PM GMT
Those pop-ups don't just appear automatically, someone (if not you) has made that happen. I'm guessing that the sp you're working with has a lot going on behind the scenes, as you don't seem to have created this from scratch, it's going to be hard for you to unravel the problem.

If you want me to have a look at it I don't mind. email a copy to imgoingasfastasican@googlemail.com
Report davoblue November 25, 2009 3:43 PM GMT
What version of Excel is it and how long has it been installed on your laptop?
