Gerd Muller was the best ever. 14 goals in WC finals I think, and incredible 68 goals in 62 Internationals for Germany
Possibly the greatest goalscorer ever.

Just Fontaine (France) who was quite simply the greatest World Cup striker ever. Scored a record 13 goals in the 1958 Finals in Sweden, which I was lucky enough to attend and without doubt the most natural goalscorer that I have ever seen play the "beautiful game"..

Salvatore 'Toto' Schillaci by a country mile, for reasons already stated, and for the fact that that was the World Cup that I fell in love with watching football, as well as just playing it.
The beeb changed their opening credits during the tournament to incorporate Nessun Dorma (which had become extremely popular) and they changed the images too. They ended with Pavarotti belting out the final 'Vincero' (I will win) and Schillaci sliding in on his knees with a look of pure 'f*cking get in there' joy on his face.

Lineker for me. Not only was he lethal in front of goal, his overall contribution in 86 & 90 was never given the full credit it deserved. Won the Golden Boot & didn't even make the final! Other than him, Luque (Argentina) was a good to watch in 1978 & Rossi (Italy) in 1982.
