Mario Kempes,
Great commentary (78) whenever he got the ball. Also left footed players always seem more elegant somehow. |

roger milla for me

king of the road was a very good song imo

Thierry Henry has made me smile alot recently if that helps :D

Niall Quinn. When times were tough for the Republic of Ireland he gave all 7 billion of us renewed hope of a draw.
By:
Grzegorz Lato Poland 74 World cup top scorer
By:
Gerd Muller was the best ever. 14 goals in WC finals I think, and incredible 68 goals in 62 Internationals for Germany
Possibly the greatest goalscorer ever. |

for his goal against Uruguay in 1986. they were the miserablist team of all time(put us out) but he just ripped them apart with pure pace :) |

Bobby Charlton
Still England's greatest ever player, by some distance Still under-rated in this country. Worshipped abroad |
By:
Without doubt for me...Emilio Butragueño
Best nickname ever as well. "The Vulture of Madrid" |
By:
skilachi

With my own eyes probably Bergkamp (controlling and scoring that pass from de Boer in '98) or Zidane (striker?)
By:
was gutted with that bergkamp goal poppy, had argies @ 20/1 to lift the cup :(
By:
Great goal and Barry Davies' commentary was fantastic
By:
Ronaldo in 98 before his mysterious illness on the day of the final. Then returning in 2002 to score 8 and win it.
By:
Just Fontaine (France) who was quite simply the greatest World Cup striker ever. Scored a record 13 goals in the 1958 Finals in Sweden, which I was lucky enough to attend and without doubt the most natural goalscorer that I have ever seen play the "beautiful game"..
By:
Maradonna, he's 4 foot nothing, even using his hand he should not have got the better of 6 foot something Shilton, hilarious.
By:
agree with SSS ... Sicilian Schillachi ... from unknown to star ... and brilliant, crazy-eyed celebration ... and told someone he'd have him shot ...
By:
Gazza because he used to let his face leak
By:
davor suker, cos i backed him at 33/1 for top scorer

Salvatore 'Toto' Schillaci by a country mile, for reasons already stated, and for the fact that that was the World Cup that I fell in love with watching football, as well as just playing it.
The beeb changed their opening credits during the tournament to incorporate Nessun Dorma (which had become extremely popular) and they changed the images too. They ended with Pavarotti belting out the final 'Vincero' (I will win) and Schillaci sliding in on his knees with a look of pure 'f*cking get in there' joy on his face. |

davor suker you also got the 33/1 top goalscorer? |
By:
Lineker for me. Not only was he lethal in front of goal, his overall contribution in 86 & 90 was never given the full credit it deserved. Won the Golden Boot & didn't even make the final! Other than him, Luque (Argentina) was a good to watch in 1978 & Rossi (Italy) in 1982.
