It's my birthday today, I helped my buddy run her market stall in Battersea all day and she treated me to a crispy duck lunch and a couple of pints of Aspalls for helping her out which were both very agreeable and it was a lot of fun being out and about in the sunshine and not being at home punting all day.

I like beef with (fat) noodles in black bean sauce and veg; char sui (slightly charred) on its own (not in sauce) as it kills the texture and flavour; steamed lobster/fish in rice wine with sliced ginger and spring onions; prawns (no shells) fried in light batter; steamed tofu in oyster and soy sauce.
Only buy roast duck from restaurants (not takeaways): restaurants either make them themselves or buy from entities with proper facilities to make them (takeaways do not) - the difference is telling. Or marinade duck breast with a touch of 5 spice powder in hoisin sauce (light colour/not dark) from Sainsbury; fried (no oil) skin side down for 8mins until golden brown; 30secs the other; then into preheated oven 180/200 C for about 5mins; rest and serve - it's taste wonderful.

impossible123, in St.John's Hill in Battersea today the street food was absolutely excellent. Not cheap granted but the quality was very good indeed I thought.

Those are the best places to try out a variety of dishes made by people form various parts of the world. They are home-cooked, good quality and tasty. I agree they are not cheap, but worth it. It's best to go with 3/4 friends buying from a few stores and sharing the food; Borough Market and Hoxton near Hackney are good too.
In Sutton nearer to x'mas the high street would entertain store holders from France; their baguettes, bread, crepe and jam were far more superior than top-notch supermarkets/stores in London - I think they use butter (instead of just oil) in their bread.
