Edge Of Darkness was great at the time.

I've just bought that from Amazon along with Jakes Progress, A couple of months ago I bought The Charmer with Nigel Havers , Rosemary Leach and Bernard Hepton. It is incredibly good.

The ones they did of the Olivia Manning WW2 novels ( 2 trios) were excellent. Oddly I remember reading some of the books going to the Cheltenham Festival, some time ago. They had the married couple Branagh and Thompson - and were still great. They must have loved each other at the time.

Do you remember The Rock & Roll years Bodil? It was news footage through the sixties with a musical soundtrack. Commentary in words on the screen. A great history lesson and a brilliant docu.

It seems like yesterday. I'm sure they haven't wiped that dobbo. Somebody somewhere will have recorded and preserved it. I'm sure I've seen it on one of the interminably-repeating channels. Many times.
Admit it, you appeared on it. |

A lovely epitaph:
"He used to be a memory" |
|
By:
brasseye was genius.
|
|
By:
thankyou for reminding me of the 'rock n roll years'!

I can think of 5 pieces of perfect genius tv they are:
Brasseye I'm Alan Partridge (the first series) Blackadder goes forth Fawlty Towers (both series) Peter Cook with Clive Anderson pretending to be footy manager/rockstar/old judge/metaldetecting nerd All of the above are as good as faultless imo. Love Dad's Army and Only Fool's and Horses too, but they resorted to cheap laughs and slapstick too often imo. Which is a shame because in terms of characters, actors and writers they had everything. But they obviously made too many episodes which is why they had to go for th cheap laughs that let them down in the end. Still cracking programmes though imo. Am I the only one taking this seriously |

Oddly reg, I loved the introductory music to the Rockford Files. It was great for its time.

Extremely difficult to select just one but my vote goes to Jeeves and Wooster.
Written by a comedy genius and acted superbly by everyone involved. |
|
By:
When I was living with 3 women in 3 different places simultaneously, 2 TV progs gave me some solace - Minder and Hill Street Blues. Drinking vodka watching them was comfort indeed. Both have survived well. Almost as well as me. It's close.

That was good panglima. Loved the lesbian redhead. Who wouldn't have been so attractive if she wasn't lesbian. Actually they were all good.
|
|
By:
The first Prime Suspect was good as was Cracker but for me it would be the dramas the beeb made under the Play For Today /Wednesday Play banner. And series like Boys From The Blackstuff

Although he was a sexual unusual and local (maybe sold things at your car boot sales?) Dennis Potter was the best TV playwright. Even when he was insane with the pain (called his cancer Rupert, after Murdoch) he still did better stuff than today.
