Agree pretty much about Silent Alarm, Elephant, very hard to compile these lists,
personally would have without a shadow of a doubt, The hour of the bewilderbeast by badlydrawnboy, Optimist EP by Turin Brakes, Last Broadcast by Doves & Out of Nothing by Embrace and special mention to Easyworlds final offering, kill the last romantic |

No Goldfrapp in the top 50 for the decade?
= meaningless poll |
By:
the fact there is no white stripes, no kings of** and no dance music.. just about say it all about that list.. that mag stopped being good ten years ago at least...
i used to buy it every week religiously for mentions of my favs.. especially when the long awaited stone roses second album was on its way.. now.. they like to create the bands and push them to the moon.. the arctic monkeys and especially the strokes.. and even mroe so the fking libertines.. are sht. average wannabee indie bands. |

Grandaddy @ 34 - superb stuff :)
By:
Avalanches? Good god. What a sh!te album that was. How the hell did THAT make the top 50?
By:
Very true there should be at least one, probably two White Stripes albums on there.

Anubis - as a respector of your tastes I shall try some of those out. I own, for reference, Air - 10000 Hz Legend, Doves - The Last Broadcast & I think my missus has Faithless - Outrospective. I'm going to see Doves soon, while Gabriel's Games Without Frontiers (from, like, 1980ish) is one of my favourite songs of all time.
By:
Make that top13. I forgot Guillemots - Through The Windowpane.
By:
^ Saw them live a couple of years ago!
By:
You should like Onetwo Alex,as they are two of your top100 acts combined. Paul Humphreys from OMD and Claudia Brucken from Propaganda.
By:
I've heard of them Anubis, but one of my mates put me off a bit as he saw them live & thought they were poor. I'll try them out anyway. Have you heard of a French band called Telex btw? (from the 80s) - amazing Kraftwerk/Sparks/Air/PetShopBoys/DaftPunk style stuff
By:
No I haven't Alex,I'll give them a try.
By:
Good stuff Anubis. They do an excellent/hilarious cover of Plastic Bertrand's Ca Plane Pour Moi, which you have to listen to. You'd probs like Fad Gadget too, I'd wager.

I can't even name my top 10 lps of the week let alone decade! I listen to lots of music but don't go into rating them - only way i do is by the amount of times i play them.

Which ones do you play the most spyker ;)

I agree that it's probably an exercise in futility naming a definitive list over a decade.
For obvious reasons. On that understanding, giving a snapshot of what that list might be (today) is diverting. I like a lot of anubis' list. 1. Goldfrapp - Black Cherry (probably the only truly successful album to fuse their pastoral side and their dirty side) 2. White stripes - White Blood Cells (a simply extraordinary rock record) 3. Hooverphonic - President of the LSD golf Club (imagine Brian Wilson joins the cocteau Twins) 4. Blood Red Shoes - Box of Secrets (cathartic 'scream at your frustrations' album of the decade) 5. Siobhan Donaghy - Ghosts (transcends her pop past. frequently thrilling) 6. Paramore - Riot (just wish hayley Williams would cut out the dumb Americanisms when she can write stuff with depth) 7. Frankmuzik - Complete Me (Great electro pop, an arrogant control freak but what a talent) 8. White stripes - Elephant ('black math' and 'hardest button' explode) 9. Mediaeval Baebes - Mirabilis (Took them 6 years but finally got it right!) 10. Starsailor - On the Outside (cos you have to have some anthemic rock in there somewhere) |
By:
How can The Dogs not be on this list. Amazing band. Mixture of Clash, Jam, Pistols all rolled in to one but better!
By:
Where the ** is Master of Puppets on the betfair all time list? :0
By:
Alex - if you're really that interested then you can see for yourself and you can see what I'm listening to right now! http://www.last.fm/user/electricart I rarely listen to anything more that about 12 times - I'm not easily impressed!

How about the Top 10 albums of the 1990s? :)
In alphabetical order |

Fear of the Dark(Iron Maiden)
Temple of the Dog(Temple of the Dog) Rust in Peace(Megadeth) Ten(Pearl Jam) |
By:
I've got the 3rd,4th and 5th albums on that list Alex. I might put my own top 10 of the nineties up later on. I listened to a few Telex songs on Spotify. They were interesting to listen to once but maybe not repeatedly.
By:
Anubis - I'll look forward to that. I'll wait until you put your Top 10 1990s albums up before I post my Top 10 80s ones! I'll need quite some time to think about that one as, despite 'perceived wisdom', the 80s threw up some superb music. Take your point about Telex - what did/do you think of Fad Gadget?
By:
I didn't get round to them,I will let you know.
By:
Violator is a rock solid album, 101 is my favourite by Depeche Mode though.
By:
Preferred SOFAD. More soul.
By:

From the top 50 i have NEVER heard of 34 of the bands and i cannot name a SINGLE record by any of them except Johnny Cash!!!
None of it will be played in 20 years but the Beatles, Stones will be still going strong! |

I'm going to take my time over picking my top 10 of the 80s - in fact I might treat everyone to a whole new thread :0

there are very few albums where every song is exceptional, and of course this is all pretty much a personal thing as we all have differing tastes, but id say there are only 3 albums ive heard where i really like every song...
