Im not impressed, very temperamental and site is quite basic. does allow you to get in touch with some you have lost contact with but the search is a bit limited
Completely irrelevant and pointless. A pal of mine recently had a clear out of his face-book friends by deleting all the so-called "friends" he had never met!! Its for pond-life, nerds and those deeply sad individuals who watch X-factor, read The Sun and wander around half asleep with earphones in (listening to mass produced "baby, baby" music) because they are exhausted after a 13 hour shift on World of Warcraft, or that other **e where you have an avatar in a make believe world!!!! These are the people who do not respect anyone and will ultimately destroy this fragile planet The me, me , me generation. Should be banned! Rant over.

I would guess with alot of ppl who aren't on facebook probably don't want othersl who used to know them find out what a loser they have become, or turned out to be ugly etc.
Likewise ppl that use facebook all the time and update their status constantly are usually exactly the same as the above minus self awareness.

What makes me laugh is when a couple split up. What's the first thing they do? Confide in their friends and family? Get pi$$ed with thier mates and drown their sorows? Beg for the partner to take them back? No...they log in and update their profile.
Feckin saddos

but why would you not be in contact with people you are bothered about?
do people really care what people they've never contacted in years think?
surely a reason they don't talk any more. and how would they discover your life story from fb or even care? as again, there will be a reason you lost touch.

It's got it's uses. I got a sh8g out of it. Someone i hadn't seen for about 14 years got in touch. I fancied her when i was younger, but she was with someone at the time.

I agree its a load of old cobblers in the main, and complete saddo's who log on all the time should be shot, but it does have its uses. When i was travellin it was easy to stay in touch with every1, now im back i hardly use it, other than if some1 sends me a msg. Thing is ppl like u lot of this thread thinks everybody on facebook lives on there. A very very small % use it all the time, like u lot are whinging about.
Btw do ppl think these social networking sites are a phase/trend or here to stay? I hope they are just a phase to be honest, otherwise where does it end?

No I didn't, I can only speak from them the users I'm in touch with, who are exclusively university students and graduates. There may be some collection of facebook morons that you're in touch with but it's not my area of expertise so I wouldn't feel qualified to comment.

pile of sh!te , 80% of people on it are attention seekers the other 20% use it for keeping in touch with people you dont see or speak to that often which is fair enough.

its good for people with loads of mates, i dont even have an account because i only know about 10 people who would use it and the rest i could add as friends i speak to on gambling forums.
so for me its pointless, the rest of you who knows.
mind you myspace was good for stalking people i hadnt seen in years back in the day, is that site still going?

Its basically a site for attention seekers. Apparently the most popular status statements are along the lines of...is**ed off...is feeling down...along them lines. If it aint that its invitations to join some x factor support group. I personally use it for looking up ex girlfriends to get me leg over, even that's run dry now so I've deleted my profile.

I stood in a queue yesterday in the university library to use a computer; I had to print an assignment off so I could hand it in before the deadline. When it was eventually my turn in the queue, I walked over to the computer and every person bar one in the row (6 in total) was on Facebook. To use Betfair vernacular, I was 'seething'. Seriously, can this shiit now wait until they have spare time? They could've even done it on their own laptop and it wouldn't have been a problem.
Honestly, it's for fuccking morons.

hating facebook is cool now. So you dont like it, or you think its for Saddos etc. Truth is it whiles away many many boring hours at work or at home. You can stay in touch with your friends easier. (oooh but if they were friends you'd use a phone, f**k off and be practical! FB is free!) you can store memories, photos etc.
Sure you can be egotisitcal and attention seeking too, but you can ignore those that do that also. You can play scrabble, you can use that Farmville thingy (I dont) but really what harm is it for others to do so?
I really think people need to get over it. Stereotyping TENS OF MILLIONS of people as idiots or whatever really is only a reflection on the small minded nature of the originator of such insults. People on my 'friends' list range from a Oxford Uni professor with more degrees than the entirity of Chit Chat (prob not hard I know) to an old schoolf riend who is apparently a pole dancing sl*g.
basically it accomodates for all sorts. Dont like it dont use it. I am split as to whether you should continue to moan ya little faces about it though as I do quite like reading your pathetic little rants about it. That said it does take time away from other such pressing matters as who is going to win X Factor and in what order you'd do Girls Aloud.

I heard some imbeciles on the radio today complaining that their 11 year old daughters (and younger) had been targeted by undesirables pretending to be teenagers on Facebook.
The imbeciles seemed a bit non-plussed when they were asked why their young daughters were themselves lying about their ages to get on Facebook in the first place.

was recently on a stag weekend with him as it happens. Now through facebook organising meetings when Im back in the UK will be easier. Also through fb I was able to stay in contact with a number of people I met on said Stag do. All this at zero cost. Oh How Evil and pathetic I must be for wanting to do so.

Banquo - Twitter now I will allow abuse on that subject. i havent actually ever been to the site, but my understanding of that is that its just a series of status updates? Why you'd want to do that is actually beyond me.
FB and twitter both extremely useful marketing tools though so to business they are extremely useful.

canaryboy I would make a sweeping generalisation if I may be, that Poker Players are bigger morons than any group mentioned so far. Egotistical, greedy and anti social (the online breed). Very moany too.

I'm computer-averse and have no intention of ever joining anything like Facebook, but can appreciate the benefits of it to people of my age group.
My parents couldn't afford to have a 'phone when I was young, in fact, they never had one until I paid for the installation of one when I was about 24 after my dad suffered his first heart attack.
Thus, it wasn't easy to keep in touch with people you met at school/college/further afield, other than by letter. Which I did for a while, but it just naturally fades out after a while, in the main.
I would imagine there are all sorts of people I'd like to be in contact with again, who may use Facebook. But, I won't be joining.
Merenko (Eric), if you're out there: "Hello"!

i'd like to call that and raise it with a:
its a site for wierdos, freaks and stalkers. desperate 30 somethings who think their relationship/life is 5hite and the grass is greener. its caused, according to my pals, at least 2 families 2 break up, as the woman goes on a c0ckfest. my argument was that if they were window shopping anyway, then things werent right in the first place. it is a catalyst for 5hite relationships and helps bring them to a premature end.
the only good thing about it is, that, if yr partner spends a ridiculous length of time on it, then the relationship is facked. so its a good early warning system for failing relationships. it also tells u an awful lot about a person who would rather spend hours sat in front of a computer, typing messages to people they havent seen in years, rather than spending time with their partners, friends or children.

I agree wolsey...facebook is ok for keeping in contact with people you have met or went to school etc with but that's about it. Was reading that one girl on my list was excited as she was currently having a few drinks with her family...can''t have been that exciting or she wouldn't have had time to update her status.
Twitter is a lot of **, can't believe that people think they are so important that they need to tell the world what they are doing or their thoughts on anything and everything.

Well most people under the age of 21 are on Facebook these days. They all have 1000+ friends. Are they all dense and desperate?
I think it's just a new generation thing that older people on here are failing to grasp.

The only men who post anywhere on the internet, including here, are sad and lonely individuals with nothing of any moment to say or whose wives are watching a soap and they're waiting for their turn with the remote.
Mind you, I still love you all.

his wife used to say 'ive just got to go and do my farm - i wont be long. can u put he kids to bed, otherwise my crops will spoil'.
so, my pal does his duty, puts the kids to bed, watches a bit of telly, pops up to bed and is, eventually, joined by his 'life partner' at about 3am!
apparently, 'do my farm' is facebook speak for cultivating friendships of the opposite sex, with the intentions of having a ready made 5hag in place, just in case the current relationship goes pop/their partner finds out about the naughties and slings them out!

It once caused people to not feel the need to converse with me on nights out because we could do so on facebook. I know someone whose daughter was ostracised on facebook (however that happens!), yet in real life hangs about in her girlie circle (with the ostracisor!) like everything's normal. It's horribly wrong and sad when facebook becomes the plateau of friendship dynamics.
I joined facebook out of curiosity, and left a year later when I decided that if just one person talked to me once who otherwise wouldn't have because we're 'facebook friends', then it'd all be worth it. It was worth it, and continues to be.
Excellent tool for marketing and whatnot, but....It once caused people to not feel the need to converse with me on nights out because we could do so on facebook. I know someone whose daughter was ostracised on facebook (however that happens!), yet in
