I don't think that I've been out and bought an album (CD) by any particular artist in the last 5 years...and that's the truth. I just download whatever I feel I need from t'internet.

'Tarot Sport' is a good lp but it isn't all that innovative - plenty of that ilk about - listen to Kid 606 and Neil Landstrumm. I get through lps pretty quick but my fave British lps of the year (on play counts anyway) are 'Where were U in 92?' by Zomby , and 'Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do' by Major Lazer ATM I'm loving 'Look Mum, No hands by Mix n Blend who are South African, only heard it a few times though as only been out a few days but 'Cozza Friendly' by Bassnecter, which again hasn't been out that long, they are American, is prob my fave of the year.

Is the Callahan album only for die hard Smogs fans then?
Any suggestions for an intro to them?
I quite like the Jason Lytle album Yours truly, the commuter but I loved Grandaddy.

Some fantastic new songs this year from old and new artists (e.g. Doves, Mos Def, Wilco, Phoenix) unfortunately very little in the way of decent albums.
Most pleasure gained from a Motown cash-in (?) album
Michael Jackson - 'The Stripped Mixes'
Most of the instrumentation has been set back or taken away and the pure talent of a young Michael shines through

Yeah its great but it was 2007. Pete's solo album Grace/Wastelands is the best of 2009 imo.

Anybody who is in to music should be grateful to be around at this time as there is so much good stuff around (from all over the world) and it's never been easier to get hold of it. I don't buy into this 'music is rubbish atm' that people repeat often as if you can be bothered to think outside the box a bit and do a bit of hunting there is some great stuff out there. There is also more dross about and a lot of music has become formulaic but personnaly I've never been into the mainstream anyway so wouldn't listen to it. 'Emusic' is a good (legal) download site and only 20p a track which I'm prepared to pay as the quality is usually good and for those with a 'leftfield' taste in music has a good library to choose from.

Have to agree with Spyker...although if you are prepared to dig around every year has its fair share of good music.
Personally I like the new ***k Buttons album but prefer Street Horrrsing (a bit heavier)
The 3 best bands live I have seen this year tho are Bombay Bicycle Club (check out I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose)....Darker My Love (check out 2)....and Silversun Pickups (check out Swoon and Carnavas).

Spyker- spot on. i would only listen to british music up until about 6-7 years ago with the exception of Grunge which to me had a British sound. There is so much out there at present.Forums like this are invaluable.

Kingdom of Rust for me (not that i've listened to much this year) song of the year - the same - only Doves could take rawhide and make an epic. Video is superb too (esp when you think that Jimi's dad died prior to release). A reg Blue ford granada in the video, just like my dad had, is a clincher

Surprised no-one has mentioned Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear. I'd have that some distance clear in my top five of the year ahead of Yo La Tengo, Alela Diane, Antlers and Felice Brothers.
