My laptop won't play DVD's any ideas?

Does it recognise there's a disk in there, can you see something in Windows Explorer?

No does not register any DVD's, however did register data discs why?

It's a brand new model, to not fit a DVD drive would be commercial suicide for Acer

If it does not play the dvd, you have probably got autorun turned off.

If it does not even recognise there is a dvd in the drive (or even that there is a dvd drive) then see upthread.

I have an Acer too, 70% of the time doesn't notice there's a DVD in there at all, 30% of the time works fine.
