I live in a council house street where about half of the houses have been bought. Saw a clamping in it for the first time today and am wondering about the circumstances that might have led to it.
The car was parked half on the pavement, which may be illegal, but there are always cars parked like that. I counted another two half on the pavement and they weren't clamped, so doubt that it was for causing an obstruction.
Looked like a private firm doing the clamping - not a council van, so who would most likey have told them to clamp it and for what reason?
No idea if it was taxed. Guess if that was it, the police would have spotted it and reported it. It's just that I've always associated clamping with illegal parking. Didn't realise there were other reasons for doing it.

THe Police when short of "targets" will go along a suburban street and book every car with Wheels on the pavement and Cars facing the wrong way at night ...even when they've been parkng like it for years ..Not surprising to see 20 + cars done in each road ..

I didn't have the money on the spot to pay the £80 (+ the money for removing the clamp) so they towed it away. £350 was the next bill so I told them to shove it. They crushed the car and all I had to pay was the £80 arrears which included a "mitigated penalty."
