I read a survey that the average price of beer in the east midlands is 1.99 for ale and lager about £2.60

My local charges £2.50 for ale and £2.90 for fosters and the only place I know that sells ale for 1.99 or less is the weatherspoons. This can't be right.

Aparently average price of ale for northerners (yorkshire & north east) is £1.70. Is this bo11ox?

Not that I'd drink that vile Greene King p1ss. Better to spend the full £1.69 and get a local pint.. even better if you can get the 50 off camera voucher.

In nottingham Castle rock have started taking the camera vouchers to steal weatherpoons business.

Kenny, was in Bradford a few months ago and there were a fair few real ale places.

Right in the city centre was a pub we thought was a Spoons but was a clone really but the beer was good.  Lots of blackboards outside, I remember.

One strange pop-up type pub somewhere near where the Crown? used to be (toplesss barmaids c. 1979).

Decent newish pub at the top of the town maybe Manningham Lane...lots of decent real ales...had a microbrewery feel to it..

Nearby was an old pub maybe was a hotel, on the left going out of the city centre main drag massive bar

These pubs were above where the Metropol is/was.  Last time I went in there  it seemed to be a gay bar....lol

Went into the Jacobs Well for old times sake....was OK....

Oh and also little pub maybe off Legrams Lane...middle of nowhere really...again real ale..

Also found a couple of lively pubs late but I was so pissed I didn't really know where I was - might have been on the north side...

Ended up in what might have been The Karachi....

Always good times in Bradford..

Hi Jack. Spoons is opposite the great lake and City Hall and has boards outside so I'm pretty sure it WAS Spoons you were in. Much more up-market now that they've upgraded it from a Lloyds and done away with the awful "music" that used to be played on Friday and Saturday nights. If after going through the entrance the bar was immediately on the right, then it was indeed Spoons. Only other pub it could have been from your description is the Ginger Goose and they only sell Caffreys and John Smiths so I rarely go in.

The Crown is on Ivegate and did indeed have strippers, but I don't recall topless barmaids. It was the only pub on there apart from The Unicorn, both closing many years ago. Ivegate is featured in the excellent 1959 film Room At The Top with Laurence Harvey.

A while since I was in Jacob's Well. Many of the councellors used to meet up there on a Monday night years ago, to discuss business and sink a few. It's now open again (obviously) and was re-named Jacob's Ale House.

Not been near Legrams Lane for many a year. Was in the Shoulder Friday night (on the large beer garden) . Next time you're in the area give me a shout. :-)
Report Jack Hacksaw July 5, 2018 3:19 PM BST
Kenny,  Thanks for the info.  I have google mapped it and it may have been City Vaults.

Again, googling, I guess the spoons is Titus Salt.  Pretty sure we didn't go in there.  Did have a look round Saltaire though - fantastic place- and had a couple in the big pub.

Worked out we went to Bradford Brewery and North Parade.

Will let you know when in Bradford next - meet in the spoons!
Report kenny mann July 5, 2018 4:09 PM BST
It's a date Jack.

City Vaults is a pleasant pub. Pop in from time to time. Used to have jazz on Sundays.

Titus Salt closed about 2 years ago so only one spoons in Bradford now. It's about 100 yards above the famous Alhambra theatre, which gets some top shows on, and always has. Titus was open for about 18 years and used to be heaving, but things change and they sold it, but the new owners gave up after a year or so. Used to be a swimming baths many many years ago. How things change. Of course Sir Titus Salt built a village in Saltaire as you probably know, hence the name.

Some excellent bars on North Parade, all sprung up in the last 10 years. Sounds like you had a good crawl. :-)

She was there for 6 months. I never bought a pint on it's own the whole time.
