Maybe it's just me, but recently I've noticed a shift change in attitudes on here from obviously being outward thinkers to a general malaise married with a lot of chit chat naval gazing. I mean, look at some of the thread titles:
The differences between chit chat and Facebook - it sounds like some cry of help from chit chat to find its place in the world by comparing itself to social networking sites.

Careful - before someone starts a thread called 'Coldplay are good' or something.
That would be an appreciation of the arts; a broadening of the cerebral landscape as it were. The complete opposite of what we're faced with now: comparisons between chit chat and Facebook.
