if anyone can find a worst looking pub in the uk that's still open. i'd like to see it.

I nominate the Burns Lounge, Greenock.

i actually used to go to the corner shop here (pete's) on my lunch brfeak from school for a few years before realising that this pub was actually still open. i thought it was just some boarded up bunker. but no it's still active. That was in 1996. now in 2009 it's not chnaged 1 bit.

The Scottish Ritz.

Admittedly that is truly awful - are you sure it is still open?

you think thats bad, you should see their football ground
Report GASHWAN November 12, 2009 1:24 AM GMT
100% still open.

as i said it looked like that 15 years ago and i thought it was closed then.

it's in the Braeside/Larkfield area of the town.

i was down there a few weeks ago for my first time in years, we beat you 3-0

i have to admit the ground isnt as bad as i remember it, did they paint it over the summer lol
Report GASHWAN November 12, 2009 1:28 AM GMT
to be honest i like it mate. traditional ground. if they ever sold out to a developer and moved to a souless new stadium i'd never watch morton again.
Report GASHWAN November 12, 2009 1:29 AM GMT
it's also in the heart of Greenock's east end and (what was) the docks. it's good watching footy there and thinking that people have been enjoying football here for over 120 years
Report clacherholiday2 November 12, 2009 1:30 AM GMT
agreed, the legoland stadiums in scotland are horrible, built to the lowest possible spec with breezeblock's and iron sheets everywhere.

out of all the new grounds in scotland only livi and st johnstons are any good, but then a bit of cash was spent on them and the super j's is 15+ years old now

i've lived in loads of sh.itholes in my time, and i've always made a point of visiting the dirtiest pubs in the area. I just like them.

Think scotland might be a "step up" in the dirty pubs stakes. Did go edinburgh and glasgow once, but was a bit of a tourist tbh, never saw the proper sh.tholes. Closest i've been is watching "trainspotting", one of my top 5 films of all time.

I had my first drink handed out the door to me at the Norseman in Greenock before the footie, is it still there?

GASHWAN, if I went in there I'd count myself to walk back out unhurt. Looks like you have to be a 100% bloke or you might get your ** screwdrivered.

The Colby Arms in Gypsy Hill S.E.19. The video for Only You by The Flying Pickets was filmed there and it hasn't changed since then, as grungy a pub as you are ever likely to see.

i don't think it compares to the burns lounge in the slightest.
Report Ken Masters November 12, 2009 2:47 PM GMT
TBF looking at the picture I'd rather spend an evening in the Burns Unit than the Burns Lounge, although a visit to one would probably necessitate a visit to the other.
