at the bottom of the update page is a "free upgrade" option. remember not to click the free full trial too

when installing the auto-option is to include free 1 month trial. need to unselect and choose BASIC version only
Avira or avast better imo. AVG gone downhill since 8.
Avira is excellent if you disable all the ads and splashscreens.
