LOL - Skodas were here in the fifties - they just didn't evolve greatly. I bought a brand-new 120 LSE in 1980 form a Southend showroom - and very good it was too!

I used to be the system operator of a pirate BBS in the early 90s called Offshore , i belonged t Fairlight and Nemesis and Razor 911 cracking groups on the AMiga and PC, because the BBS was Offshore hence tax exile.

£3000 with all the accessories, (sunroof, radio/cassette, reclining seats, disk-brakes etc.etc) quicker than the conventional 1300's and very reliable. I just had to put up with all the jokes :) that I bought with it. Wife and I had 4 Skodas in all - and now the Octavias/Supremes have a good reputation I hear.

It sure does Velasquez. We also had Classic Vision, a decently-bred filly who won a few races. Been very lucky owners really. Well, I say "owners", we leased the horses. Great fun though - would love it if we could get another one....

The jokes were a hangover from the 50's, 60's,70's and their unreliability - by 1980 they had a very loyal customer base. You don't hear the Skoda jokes now do you! They did not depreciate as much as the Escorts and Astras of that era - but they always looked cheap second-hand as the original purchase price so low. Ideal 4-door family car for us and two little ones. I did move 'up market' in 1990 as soon as I could afford to though ;)

I have heard of Skoda jokes, but only due to my own brain that I think Skoda started to have a proper reputation in the mid 90s?
am 29, and I remember when I was younger, Lada were the butt of all jokes, don't even know if they're in existence?

Oh yes - I had all the Skoda with no roof, heated rear window, petrol cap jokes throught the eighties - but we had no problems and no regrets, and neither did other Skoda owners we met. We told the same jokes - about Ladas and FSO's. We digress!

You can see Zenyatta dancing in the paddock, in front of the fans...and a lady lets go a mofo expletive after she wins...one of the best races ever, Tommy - stunning!
Apparently, she is about a hand bigger than Secretariat...just a shame there is no Rachel Alexandra V Zenyatta...

Tommy - Yeast was decent. Only one style of running but very hard to pass. Great start to Haggas's career with him, Shaamit and Missile in the yard.

Thankls Vel, I'll have a look at it in a bit. I couldn't believe her performance in the parade ring before the race. It was as if she was declaring to the colts that she was the best and they 'ain't seen nothing yet' - and by gum, didn't she just prove it.

I don't know about Zarkava - she was whisked off to stud as the Aga is prone to do with his top notchers. Funny how form is so selective, eh? What about Rip Van Winkle? Zarkava didn't beat the Italian horse It's Gino by much in the Arc, or Youmzain.
With her style of running, Zenyatta was just as exciting as Dancing Brave in the Arc.
Admittedly, ONE top race against males doesn't measure up to Pebbles and Allez France (same could be said for Zarkava) but - oh my! - it was electric!

He did - sadly before we had him. That would have been quite a day...
Was injured and nearly retired but then recovered. Never got back to his old form but still good enough to run them ragged at places like Lingfield and Leicester :-)

Jean Jacques - I think you're getting me mixed up with Maczysz Dzieduszycki. It's an easy enough mistake to make as the names sound very similar.
Yes, he had a tendency to quote from the Timeform annual at the drop of a hat.

It was electric, Vel - and as Dobbo has said, a performance that will live long in the memory.
A pity you didn't have him then, Yeasty, but it must have given you some great times being involved with him.
