Poor chap must have been in a terrible state of mind. Only 32, so much to live for. Very sad.

Is it me or are the footballers of abroad much cleverer than British bred ones? Okay, probably a funny thread to bring this up on, but fk it.

150k a week for standing around catching a ball is pretty smart work

not sure i'd want to carry on if i'd lost a 2year old daughter

Germany goalkeeper Robert Enke, who committed suicide on Tuesday, had been battling depression and was first treated for the illness in 2003.

His widow Teresa said he feared their adopted daughter Leila would be removed if his illness became public knowledge.

He had also struggled to overcome the death of their biological daughter Lara, who died at the age of two in 2006 of a rare heart condition.

He had a kind face .RIP

When he played for Benfica he took in 8 stray dogs of the street of Lisbon as his own. Decent guy most probaly by the sounds of it - RIP.

That says it all for me UK.

Tragic.

Goalie not the right position for a depressive person. Shouldve been a striker.

Exactly Mithcell, Could not see many top level English players ever doing such a thing.

sounds like he was an extremely tortured individual, the mind can be a very dangerous thing

Anyone who takes in 8 stray dogs has to be a fcking weirdo.

Poor guy, poor relatives & freinds, such a sudden & unpredicted loss must be so hard to take - love to all affected. It makes you count your lucky stars when you realise he had to live on after losing a 2 year old daughter.........not sure I could've been that brave.
Report McChicken_Sandwich November 12, 2009 12:26 AM GMT
That brave as to kill yourself?
Report owl4life November 12, 2009 12:27 AM GMT
surely it takes bottle 2 jump in front of a train
Report positively4thsteet November 12, 2009 2:02 AM GMT
This got mentioned down the pub - german goalkeeper got hit by a train.

One bloke said "did he save it", other bloke said "yeah you'd have thought he'd
just parry it over the bar". not massively funny admittedly, but made me chuckle at the time.

Sad news though. Is hard for the family but I always think if someone is that down that they will kill themself, then they are probably better off wherever they are now. As for the family though, it is a disaster.
