these little feckers wil blow with moisture, even off your hands when installing, most will come with a rubber insert tool, otherwise be very gentle with them and avoid over handling, steam a no no too, if room dry and no handling issues, get your electrics checked.

Got a 6-bulber in our living room (60 watts each). Happens every month that at least one bulb jumps out a few metres when they're switched on. Weird.

these also dont like lots of on off action, if you put em on, leave em on, turning them off when you leave the room to save energy will cost you more in bulbs in the long run, obviousy knock them off at bedtime :) have'nt heard of dimmers affecting them tho.

Yes coach.... i have exactly the same problem!!
its a row of lights 6 in a line. and at least one of them blows per week. its ridiculous! |
|
By:
ahh i see , could be the handling then ,...theyre a b'stard to put in because of the design of the shades
cheers for that |
|
By:
they seem to be causing problems wholesale then ?
well atleast i know it was nothing to do with the fittings or my DIY :D |
|
By:
i think the makers like it that way, i have about a dozen over the house, cost me a feckin fortune.

I have a fitting which uses 2 of these, getting arsed off with changing them when they both blow about once a month.
They're supposed to last 10 years FFS. I now buy them from Tescos on a BOGOF for about £1 each. |

they're not cheap EGG

Coach,I have a friend who owns a hotel and they have about 30 of these fittings(2 lamps in each),you definitely have to use the small bit of foam or paper that comes with them when installing, also some of theirs are on a special"soft start" dimmer(made by MK) which always switches them up to the set brightness slowly and these ones seem to last longer.Lastly you can get low wattage G9 lamps here

you have to install them with gloves or cotton wool etc. the grease from your fingers does the damage.
|
|
By:
Thanks for that info Big Guru . They didnt come with anything ...just bulbs in a pack ,no foam
|
|
By:
try latex gloves, (mechanic or medical), and polish it with cotton wool afterwards.
|
|
By:
will do Jim :)
|

It,s your fingers that are prob doing it, you mark the glass, the light doesn,t pass straight through it heats up the mark, overheats, bang. Like car headlight bulbs.

i wonder how many Betfarians its gonna take to complete the task in hand

Mrs got some real cheap ones from poundland. One exploded and shattered the surrounding glass shade. A letter of complaint came back with £20. harldy the point though could have had someones eyeout.

_____________________- same thing happened to me 6 months ago . it was when i switched the light on ,almost hit the dog ...filament embedded in the carpet :0 i think these bulbs will be banned with in the year |

Put them on a dimmer and keep them slightly dimmed. Will last for ages. Its the sodium from your sweaty hands that cause the damage.
