using my daughters laptop as my pc freezes on boot up

had to install some updates it rebooted and then it froze having got the desktop up and began to start up some programs.
Did a restart and it tells me a serious error occured, no having to run a diagnostics test which hasn't anything yet

it's a dell optiplex 755 running vista

Do a erstore to a previous date BEFORE the installs .

thanks Joe, i assume I do this from a CD and not from the start menu as I cannot access it quick enough b4 it freezes up on me.

If doing from a CD which one do I use please?

no ,best way go into start mode on boot up,press F8 repeatedly as you switch pc on,you will see lots of data flash by screen,wait a min or two then you will be in a scaled down version of vista,get to system restore through sstart menu

It seems to have been a windows live messenger update as it's asking me to install it again?????
