Shocking to have a go at the bloke over this letter issue.

He has bad handwriting as im sure many of their own readers do.

Pretty poor to give the bloke abuse over this.

If a cold and official letter had been typed and sent he probably would have got stick for that as well

I think its a disgrace a greiving mother would make a nasty story out of a private and personal letter. How dare she reveal the contents to the great unwashed.

I bet her son is proud. When I lost someone I was grateful for any letter anyone bothered to take the time to write.

About half way down. I won't put the name of the person who wrote the tribute but needless to say there's some water-boiling equipment being given colour descriptions by pots...

unfortunately he's losing sight in his other eye as well, so it's not just being blind in one eye. apparently most emails sent to him have to be sent in a ridiculously large font (we're talking 25+) so he can read them.

there are so many legitimate things you can attack brown over. this is not one of them. the only people who look bad from this are the sun and the soldier's mother (and she can be forgiven).

You dont half post some utter tosh, his academic record is quite brilliant

Gordon Brown was fast-streamed through the school system, entering Edinburgh University at the age of just 16.

There, five years later, he upset the establishment by becoming elected rector - a post normally reserved for a distinguished public figure.

Shame on you Mr E. I know one person who works there and think it's disgusting that you would be celebrating if he were blown up.

The paper must employ thousands and for you to make such a sweeping generalisation is disgusting. As former players Ian Wright and Thierry henry also have / had columns in the paper, would you be celebrating their demise too?

As a response to the original post and it's theme, I too would have been pi55ed off to have received a letter with so many errors, especially re her surname and the correction to the boy's christian name. It gave the impression of it being a slap-dash, spur of the moment thing to do, that wasn't given much consideration, which I'm sure wasn't the case. Brown must has sufficient lackey's for one to have read through it, seen the errors and suggested it be re-written. However, by taping the phone call, it all seems rather pre-meditated and is now reflecting badly on her and losing her a lot of sympathy.

Report sparkmaster. November 11, 2009 11:14 AM GMT
If he didn't care why write the letter? I don't think there are any mis-spellings - his handwriting's just that bad. He would have assumed, as would I, that the recipient would be more interested in the content and the fact that a serving PM had taken the time to hand-write a letter.
Report kingfisher 23 November 11, 2009 11:16 AM GMT
Do you think he would write like that if he took his time?, face it it was nothing short of a disgrace.
Report sparkmaster. November 11, 2009 11:41 AM GMT
No, I imagine if he spent ages on writing letters he could be neater - I'd rather he didn't though. I still don't see what you find disgraceful about it. Were you aware he wrote to the families of servicemen before this story broke?

it is very simple. The Uk and US's population's wealth is in houses. No other countries have such a mental craze for owning property, and such loose lending by banks. This is what Brown is trying to protect, and he is doing a good job. I'd like to see if the tories will follow the same path when they come into power until the banking crisis levels out.
